"Have a safe trip, okay? Don't annoy your mum too much."
I laughed at my best friend. "I can't promise the latter." We stared at each other without a word for a few moments, just taking each other in.
"I'm going to miss you so much." he said.
I smiled. "I'll miss you more." once again we just looked at each other until we finally broke in a big hug. After a long silence, he sighed. "This isn't goodbye, you know," he started. "I'll see you again soon."
I also sighed. "I know." I replied. We stood there and held on for a few more moments. Finally letting go, we looked at each other once more.
"See ya later, bud." his voice was just a whisper.
"Yeah," I sighed. "See ya later." I slowly started backing away, waving at him. He waved back, and my eyes started to water. I quickly turned forward and started walking to the terminal so he wouldn't see me crying. I caught up to my mom and handed my plane ticket to the attendant. Before walking onto the plane, I looked back one final time to see him still standing there and waved with tears in my eyes. He gave me a sad smile and returned the gesture. I gave him a small smile and slowly turned around to board the plane. I found my seat and stuffed my carry-on into the above seat storage. I sat down in my seat, buckled up, and waited. A few minutes passed until the flight attendant announced we were about to take off. The plane began to move and I looked out the window in order to find the one face that was so familiar to me. I searched every face looking my way until I finally recognized one. I smiled and stared at him as we started traveling faster and faster, leading to the plane lifting off the ground.
"See ya later, buddy," I softly whispered to myself. I looked away from the the window and sighed. Closing my eyes, I could feel myself falling asleep. "See ya later."
That was the day all the excitement I once had in my life faded. It was the day my life went from adventurous and happy, to boring and pathetic. That was the last day I ever saw Luke.
Or so I thought...

Five years later.
"Kaitlyn, wake up! It's the last day before summer break, you don't want to be late!"
I groaned as i started to rub my eyes and slowly open them. Bright light of the morning Australian sun shone through my window and I had to squint. I sat up and took a look around my room. "Finally," I thought. "The last day of year 11." I decided to get up and start getting ready for school. I walked into my closet, struggling to find the right thing to wear for my last day. I searched through my sea of clothing that seemed to never end until I spotted something that could possibly work. Setting the selected ensemble on my bed, I sat down in front of my mirror to do my hair and makeup. I quickly straightened out my light brown hair, fixing a few waves that showed up over the night. I grabbed my foundation and lightly massaged it onto my face until it was blended, then finished my makeup with simple eyeliner and mascara. I then trudged over to my bed and undressed so I could put on my purple sundress for the day. I put on a pair of black sandals before heading downstairs for breakfast.
"Morning, mum!" I called to her from the kitchen. I heard a faint "Good morning, Kaitlyn" come from the living room where my mother was watching the morning news. I sat at the breakfast bar and immediately noticed the huge stack of pancakes she had made. I grabbed a plate and dove into the pancakes, plopping three huge ones on top of it. I buttered them and then basically dumped the maple syrup on top. I began devouring the sweet, buttermilk pancakes my mom made every last day of school. "Mmm- yummy breakfast mum! Best one yet." I called
