I stared at the TV in disbelief.
Luke Hemmings, my best friend, was in the band that went on tour with One Direction?!
"This is crazy. Since when was Luke even IN a band?!" I thought to myself. Apparently, in the years that we had lost contact, he had joined a band and they were pretty successful. I mean, I knew Luke could play guitar and that he could sing. He loved music. But, damn. I guess I missed a lot. And I have to admit - he has grown up a little. And by a little I mean a lot. Not going to lie, I found him really attractive. His hair was the same blonde color I remember it being when we were younger, except it was up in a spiked-quiff kind of thing. And - the lip ring. I remember him telling me when we were young that when he grew up he wanted one, but I didn't think he was this serious about it and would actually do it.
I couldn't stop staring at the picture of Luke and his band members. It was so weird to see him for the first time after 5 years.
"Well?" my mum dragged me out of my head. "What do you think?"
"Wow." was all I could manage to come out of my mouth.
She laughed. "I know, right? It's crazy how that's the same Luke Hemmings you used to spend all your time with when you were a kid." She sighed. "My, how time goes by quickly."
I looked at her and laughed. "Tell me about it." I looked back at the TV again once more before thinking back to Sydney. I just remembered that I was supposed to be going to Sydney tomorrow to stay with my dad for the holidays. My mum and him split when I was nine. I didn't mind much, they argued all the time and it was nice for me when they finally decided to get a divorce because I didn't have to deal with it all the time. Plus, they both seemed happier without each other, and that's all that really mattered to me.
"Hey, mum," I looked over in her direction. "You know how I'm flying over to Sydney tomorrow?" She nodded.
"Yeah, of course. What about it?" I looked into her eyes.
"Do you think Luke's at his parent's house?" Luke's parents lived right down the street from my dad. That's how we met, and that's how our friendship started.
My mum's eyes went wide. "I guess you'll just have to wait and find out."
-
"Katiebug, are you all packed up? We need to leave in like five minutes!"
I stuffed the last of my possessions into my duffel bag. "Yeah, be down in like 30 seconds!" I threw the bag over my shoulder and grabbed the handle of my suitcase. I practically stumbled down the stairs trying to carry both. "Help!" I called. Mum ran up the stairs and laughed.
"Give me the suitcase." I huffed out a breath will handing her the case.
"Gladly." I somehow made my way downstairs in one piece and set the duffel bag down. I went to the door to put on some shoes and then came back to my mum. "Well, let's get these bags into the car." I said. I picked the duffel bag back up and headed out the door to the car. The trunk was already open, so I lightly threw the bag inside.
I hopped into the passenger seat of the car and waited for my mom to get in as well. Soon enough I heard the door of the trunk slam shut as my mom climbed into the vehicle and ignited the engine. We looked at each other. She smiled. "Are you all set?" I nodded, and then we were off to the airport.
It took us about 30 mins to arrive. I opened up the door and headed to the trunk to get my bags. Mum grabbed the suitcase again and closed the trunk, and then headed to the entrance of the airport. This was only the second time I'd been there. The first being when mum and I moved to Brisbane. Of course I had seen my father since then, he had flown into Brisbane instead of me going to Sydney because my parents didn't think I was old enough to fly by myself until this year. We entered the airport and right away started searching for the bag check. Once we were done there, we went to go find my gate. My flight was scheduled for four o'clock, and it was around three at the time. We walked around until I finally spotted it.
