Heart palpitations, cold sweats and dry throat, Nine was barely holding it together. Rodtang was teasing him and taunting his every nerve. No corner could be turned without finding him doing something offensively sexual and overt.
Instead of planning his date. He was busy fantasising. His mind was wandering off into space. When he did manage to get it together long enough, he went through endless ideas. Bowling, Arcade, Movie, Roller Coaster, Rock Climbing, Theme Park, The Beach, but he talked himself out of each one.
Bowling no, because he was terrible at it and he didn't want to look like an awkward, tip-toe ballerina.
Arcade no, because he was terrible at it and ...
Rock Climbing, afraid of heights,
Theme park, laaaaaaaaame.
Movie, booooorrrriiiinnnggg.
Roller Coaster, eeeeeegggghhh !
and finally the Beach, he never told anybody this, but if there was one thing in the world Nine hated it was sand in his crack.
"So what's left? Nothing, Zip, Nada, Kaput !"
Thursday morning he found himself hiding around every corner avoiding the possibility of being accosted by Rodtang and his brutal advances. Everyone seemed to be looking at him funny. Not sure why, he kept his head down and moved through the day.
In his last class, Book and Frame were chatting, he watched and, was in awe of their comfort with each other.
They both turned around at the same time and looked at Nine. He felt their eyes burning into him and, the quirky smiles on their faces made him nervous. Suddenly he found that he was blushing from the attention. Book casually walked over to him and leaned in. "Is it true ?"
"Is what true ?" Nine asked, lost in his meaning. "You asked Rodtang out on a date." Feeling paralysed he managed to blurt out, louder than he wanted to, "Ah yeah I asked him out."
"I mean, were going out on Saturday night." Looking into Books eyes he was waiting for it, the tease, the remarks, but, Book was his usual good self and just put his hand on Nine's shoulder, squeezing it. "That's good, I'm happy for you Nine," there was a smile across his handsome face.
Nine felt a wave of ease run over him, he was thrilled that at least these guys wouldn't be cruel and tease him. They kind of seemed happy for him. Their smiles were encouraging and right now he needed that. Only two days left and he didn't even know where he would take Rodtang.
Giving in he decided to ask, "Book, I want to do something nice with him but nothing seems to be right." Looking into Books eyes he passed his sense of desperation.
With both hands on Nine's shoulders now, and Frame standing right behind him. Book said in a low voice, being careful not to inform the whole room. "Take him somewhere that means something to you both. There must be some place that you two have in common."
Frame leaned in and asked: "have you kissed him yet,? there's a rumour that you have."
Nine's eyes widened. "No !, ah, ah, well yes, I guess so, I, I mean well, really, he kissed me."
Frames smile was huge he asked: "Where?"
"Um, right here at school, In the gym."
"Oh, well that's no good. You can't take him on a date in a gym or here at school. Has he ever tried to kiss you before?"
"Well kinda, but that was outside, and there were people everywhere, it was embarrassing."
That's it, It came to him, he knew exactly what he was going to do.
