The Hospital

My entire body ached. My eyelids were too heavy to open. I was awake, but no matter how hard I tried to flicker my eyes open, it wouldn't happen. I laid there like that for hours, maybe days. I couldn't tell. There was a throbbing pain in my arm, ankle, and head. I heard an occasional voice, but the voices were always muffled. Either they were whispering, or something was wrong with my hearing. I don't know why this turned out so bad. I probably twisted my ankle, broke my arm, maybe bumped my head, but there was no explanation for the eyelids or the hearing. I was starting to get scared. Id had dance injuries, with the same issues. But id never experienced anything like this before.

"Taylor?" It had been a while since I'd attempted to open my eyes, and it was the first time anyone had said anything to me. I knew exactly who it was. It was clear as day this time. No muffled sound. That Australian accent was unmistakeable . My eyes shot open. I was in a hospital room, obviously. There was an IV hooked up to my arm, and I was sprawled out on my back in a traditional blue hospital gown. There were balloons all over the room. "Get well soon" "Get better". There were cards stacked on my eating table, and a few vases of flowers in random spots around the room. There was a mirror straight across the room from me with a sink right below it, and pale cabinets below that. They were a tan-grey color, that had probably been faded by the sun streaming into the window over the years. The window filled an entire wall and over looked a huge courtyard. We were high up. The sixth or seventh floor maybe. There was a black brace on my ankle and my arm was in a purple cast. A few people had already signed it in my slumber. One stood out to me it read "I'm sorry. Love Cody. Get better" The night flashed into my mind. Thats right, You should be sorry. The beeping of the monitors checking my heartbeat sped up. I must have gotten overly heated up about the evening. I steadied my shallow breathing and the beeps went back to the way they were at first. He touched my hand then.

"Cody?" he sighed in relief

"You're awake." he was smiling now "How do you feel?"

"Weird. What's wrong with me?" I needed an explanation for the hearing problem and not being able to open my eyes.

"You just broke your arm and sprained your ankle . I'm so sor--"

"That's it? Just a broken arm?"

"Yeah, why?"

"I couldn't hear or open my eyes, it's something more that a break, Cody."

A man in a white jacket came it then. It was like a scientist jacket.

"Morphine. I had to readjust your radius and it would have been very painful without painkillers. It tends to have that effect."

"oh,"

I turned back to Cody "how long was I out?"

"Just a couple of hours. You passed out around ten and it's seven now, so, yeah." we sat in silence for a few  minutes and the silence was broken by his light snore. He must've stayed up all night waiting for me to wake up. Poor thing.

After about half an hour, his phone started going off on the bedside table. I couldn't help it. He was in a deep sleep and it could have been from his mom. I unlocked his IPhone and it  read "30 new messages" "7 missed calls" "4 new voicemails" don't judge! I couldn't help it.
