It’s here. The day I’ve been dreading all week is here.

It’s Friday.

I sigh and run my hands through my hair as the bell rings, signifying the end of school. If only it really was the End of School.

I jog over to my locker and spin in the combination. Just as I’m putting the books that I don’t need away, I can feel skinny arms slip around my waist.

“Hey, babe,” I murmur and turn around, only to jump at the sight that greats me.

“Get off of me, Cyren, you freak.” I push him off of me and grab my backpack, swinging it over my shoulder and slamming my locker shut. I begin to walk to the tree Owen and I had made our official meeting place, Cyren hot on my heels.

He chuckles, “Still don’t like me, I see?”

“You got that right,” I mumble as I look around for a mop of dyed blue hair.

“You know, I did some research and I bet I know a lot more about your little Cookie Monster Wannabe than you do.” I stop in my tracks and whirl around to face him.

“What could you possibly know about my boyfriend that I don’t already know?” I ask, beginning to get pissed off. Cyren chuckles.

“Well,” he begins, “there’s always the fact that he’s depressed.” My eyes widen as I stare at him in shock.

“T-that’s not true. Owen is a perfectly healthy and happy boy.” Cyren raises his eyebrows at me.

“Is he, now?” he questions with a creepy look before turning and smiling at Owen who is walking our way.

“Hey guys,” he greets cheerily and beams at the both of us.

“Hey,” I reply, but I’m too far gone in my thoughts to pay much attention to the conversation swirling around me.

Owen can’t possibly be depressed, can he? He always seems so happy and care-free. Then again, I did read a psychology book on depression and it said that some people will hide it. When Owen was in the school play, there was a scene where he had to play a depressed man whose sister had just died. The performance did seem kind of natural for him.

“…my house,” Owen is saying as I crash back down into reality, “Danni never minds having company over.” I take a deep breath and nod, sneaking a glance at Cyren who is smiling politely at my boyfriend. I need to focus on the matter at hand.

Besides, how would Cyren know anything about Owen anyway?

We walk to Owen’s house and he opens the door, announcing himself to Danni as he does so.

Danni replies and walks into the foyer sporting a tank top and short shorts.

“Oh, hey kid. Owen just keeps bringing new people over,” she says as she spots Cyren.

“Hello, my name is Danni.”

“My existence has been labeled as Cyren. It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Cyren smiles that ridiculous smile of his and shakes Danni’s hands.

“Oh, a gentleman. Owen, you keep bringing hot people home. This is the second one this week,” Danni chuckles as Cyren smiles shyly and looks down. I see through his act, though.

“Alright, I’ll leave you guys to get to whatever it is you’re planning to do. Call me if you need me,” Danni sings cheerily as she twirls back to wherever she came from.

“You have a very interesting sister, Owen,” Cyren murmurs as we walk up the stairs.

“Tell me about it,” Owen laughs. God, I love his laugh.
