Owen’s pov.

Cyren’s been quiet for the last couple of days, and I don’t know how to feel. I know he’s planning something big, but I have no idea what. This is bad. This is very bad.

I sighed as I slammed my locker door shut, ignoring the odd looks being sent my way. Tate had destroyed most rumors of our relationship, but a few still remained.

I combed my hand through my recently dyed purple hair and walked off to class, hoping to just survive the day.

Tate’s pov.

What’s going on? A guy like Cyren doesn’t just back off of something that he wants. No, something bigger must be in play here. I just have to figure it out.

I pick Owen up from his classes, neither of us really in the mood to talk. He just kind of sulks around, and it bothers me, irks me to know that I can do nothing about his unhappiness. Nothing until Cyren is gone.

I need to figure that guy out. This game is dangerous if you don’t have the right tools. Especially since Owen is the prize.

After school, I drive to the library with Owen. I purposely picked a library Owen had never been to, so that Cyren wouldn’t be able to spy on us.

I sat at a computer and let Owen go explore the books. I went onto Google and typed in ‘Cyren Tyde.’

The first thing that came up was the link to a book on Wattpad called, ‘Catch Me If You Can.’ Apparently, there was a character named Cyren in that book too. Judging from the little excerpt, he’s a creep in that book too.

Asides from that, there are only a bunch of history links, none of which I care about in the least.

“Did you really think it would be that easy?” Asked a voice, and my blood chilled.

No way.

Cyren’s Pov.

I sighed as I pushed the mutilated body of that Erica girl off the table. I would have to drag her to the furnace later, but, for now, I had things to do.

I used alcohol to clean her blood off my hands and took off my doctor’s jacket.

It’s amazing, really, how the human brain works, how complex and different each one was from the next.

I had given that girl a choice. Either tell me everything she knew about Owen, because, despite my many means of information, there are some things about him that you can only learn by knowing him for a while.

So, yeah. I gave her the choice of giving me that information, or dying, and she chose death. Owen’s friends were more loyal than expected. What a bother.

Sighing, I locked up the doors to my funhouse, which was an abandoned building that my father left me, and walked to my car.

“Take me home, Geoffrey,” I commanded my chauffer as I climbed into the back of the limo. He listened at once and started the journey home.

I opened my laptop and went to the surveillance cameras. I did a double take when I couldn’t find them. Neither of them.

“Sneaky little bastards thought they could escape me…” I muttered as I opened up another dot and followed the blinking red dot with my eyes. When it stopped moving, I smiled.

“Geoffrey, there’s been a little change in plans,” I called to the elderly man.

“Where do wish to go, Young Master?”

“I’m sending you the coordinates now.” Geoffrey received them and turned around, heading off to my sweet darling boy.

Oh, yes. That reminded me. I need to punish him for disobeying me, and for daring to kiss lips other than mine.

He was a real handful, but, by the time I was done with him, he’d be well trained pet.

A very well trained pet.

Geoffrey pulled up in front of the building and let me out as he went to go find a place to wait for me. I looked up at the building. The library, huh? This is where they came to escape me? Wow. I’m unimpressed.

Shaking my head, I walked inside. I saw Tate as soon as I walked through the doors. He was staring intensely at a computer screen. I wonder what he’s looking at.

I got closer and closer until I could see the words on the screen. I almost laughed out loud. He looked me up? Did he think I was stupid enough to put my name on the internet? That’s rich.

Shaking my head, I walked away. I looked back once more to see a blonde girl leaning over his shoulder.

I rolled my eyes and walked away, in search of Owen.

Tate’s pov.

“Alice?” I asked the girl behind me, shock evident in my voice. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m not Alice. I’m Camilla, her older sister. Nice to meet you.”

Now that Tate took a closer look at her, he could see the subtle differences. Camilla was taller than Alice, and her hair looked natural, rather than Alice’s bleached hair.

“How do you know my sister” Tate was taken aback.

“Uh… she’s my friend,” he stuttered. Why had she approached him if she didn’t know him?

“Of course,” Camilla murmured to herself. “You need to stop being friends with her. Like, now.” Tate was puzzled.

“Why?” Camilla rolled her eyes.

“C’mon, big boy,” she began, “think. I know you know about him, so you can’t be that ignorant.”

“Know about who?” Tate asked, completely lost. Camilla nudged her head towards the computer screen and Tate’s eyes widened.

“You know about him?” he asked, shocked. Camilla just rolled her eyes.

“Look, I’ll explain everything to you later, but right now, we gotta go. Knowing Cyren, he’s probably on his way here, if he isn’t here already.”

She silenced Tate and dragged him to the door of the library.

“Wait!” he exclaimed. “Owen! I have to get him.” He dashed off to find his love, ignoring the cold glares he was receiving from the other people there.

He found Owen alone in the Fantasy section, standing stock still and staring at a book.

“Oh, there you are, Owen. We gotta…” he trailed off when Owen looked up at him with tears in his eyes, fresh cuts on his cheeks, that looked like they were finger nails.

“Oh my… where is he?” Tate breathed, pulling Owen into his arms. The purple haired boy dropped the book he was holding and collapsed into Tate’s arms.

“Gone,” he managed to say before broke into tears.

Tate hushed him and lead him out of the library, where they met up with Camilla and got into Tate’s car, just in time to see a limo driving out of the parking lot.

“Who brings a limo to the library?” Tate asked curiously. Camilla looked grim.

“Cyren Tyde.”
