Delilah

I remember the first time I heard a speech from Max Vaughn. I was eight at the time and he captivated me with every word he spoke.

I remember the lights flickering on and off as his people worked hard to hack into our systems. They finally did get into the system and displayed their message through the countrywide speaker system. "The Society of America," Max said, "The Society of America. What kind of a society is ruled by the military, with no freedom of speech? What kind of society forces it's people to marry who the government chooses, to work as whatever the want, and to be segragated from all outside countries? Definately a primitive society. A society for animals. All brute and no brain. Is this really the society you want? I am Max Vaughn. I am twenty-two and I am tired of this primitive ruling and want no part in a society such as this one. One filled with lies, blind loyalty, and greed. I want peace with other countries and rights for the people in this country. We are the people and we deserve a society for the people!"

I was captivated by his words. He had a velvety voice that was nice to listen to. When I heard this speech, I turned to my mother and told her that I liked it, the words "peace" and "rights" echoing through my mind. My mother however, didn't like it and she displayed that by slapping me across the face and telling me that it was bad and that our country was right, just the way it is. I had listened to my mother. Blind loyalty, that is what Max Vaughn called it. I was blindly loyal to my mother and my country and because of that, even though I loved his speech, I hated him, just like they did.
