I was laying across the edge of my bed reading The same book for the fifth time this week when I noticed something move outside my window.
I put the book down and slowly got up. I've been on edge since I've gotten home. Every little movement startles me.
"Talia? Would you like something to eat?" There was a small knock of the door.
I shook my head no.
I heard the door knob turn and a girl with raven hair poked her head through. It was Elena, my cousin from Arkansas, she was staying with us for the weekend.
I again shook my head no.
"You haven't eaten anything today, you really should. I can make you a sandwich or something?"
Again, I shook my head.
She looked down at her feet.
"I heard your mom on the phone.. she was talking about what happened and how she's worried about you. She said you won't tell her anything."
I looked away.
"Well, if you need anyone to talk to, I'm here."
She began to shut the door.
"Would you like to know what happened to me?"
That the was first thing I've said to her in seven years.
She half smiled and shook her head yes.
"Come back when my mom goes to sleep."
She shook her head and left, closing the door behind her.
I picked up my book and began reading again.
