Death.
Damian Hawk's life has been laced with death ever since he was born. First, his parents orphaned him directly after birth. Then, his best friend at the orphanage died. So, as you can tell, his life is pretty rough.
Before we dive to farther into Damian's life story, let me tell you how it all started. After giving birth to him, his mother realized that they would not be able to support him, so they bought his first outfit and put him on the step of the nearest orphanage. He laid there awake, crying, and cold on that doorstep.
Finally, a door opened and a lady scooped him up and took him inside. This woman ended up as somewhat of a mother figure for Damian. When he was eight, she passed away.

Now I really don't want to have to be the one to share this story, as it is an upsetting and sometimes straight up depressing tale.

Unfortunately, someone has to.
And unfortunately, we have to be those people.

Kids and parents came and went, but nobody wanted Damian. He was one of three kids that never really left for years and years.
Like we mentioned before, Damian's best friend died. He was named Richard Walton, and was Damian's "BFF" (best friend forever)

Unfortunately, "forever" doesn't always happen.

Richard, or as everyone called him, Dick, passed away from cancer when Damian was 11. Dick was only 9. Dick was an amazing kid, who would never, ever argue with Damian. It seemed like they were made to be best friends. They were both into Batman and Mario. They always sat together on orphanage movie nights. There was nothing that they didn't love about each other.
And then Dick died. Damian was heartbroken. Damian never had a best friend like him again.
In the sixth grade, Damian had a little relationship with a girl named Alice. She was finally adopted, and her new parents wouldn't let them see each other. Damian was, once again, heartbroken.
As you can see, Damian Hawk almost never went a single day being completely happy. He thought about Dick, Alice, and his parents, whom he'd never even met.
And then everything changed. It was three weeks before Damian's sixteenth birthday. That day just happened to be mail day. Damian almost never got letters, but today one was delivered for him. On the front, written in cursive was,"To my Son, Damian"
Damian stared at the letters in complete and utter shock and disbelief. He pulled the fancy, red seal off of the envelope and quickly, but carefully opened it.
It read,"To my dear son, Damian Hawk. I am Your mother, Elizabeth. I write this alongside your father, Benjamin. We are truly sorry for what we had to do. There isn't a day we go without regretting it. We never meant to be cruel. We realize that your life can't have been good up until now, but we've pulled together enough money to adopt you again. We understand if you wouldn't like to come back with us, but we will visit the orphanage on February the 28th, your birthday. I look forward to being reunited.

                      -Elizabeth Hawk"

Damian's eyes began to tear up. He had never really had anyone to love him, and now he would have his own, REAL set of parents.

Finally.
