I couldn’t think during the drive back from Xavier’s house. I was hurt and I couldn’t understand why. What he was doing shouldn’t hurt me but, it did. I couldn’t do this. I wouldn’t do this. I didn’t care if all the wedding plans were finalized, I was not going to marry that lying bastard. I whipped into my drive way and threw my car into park. Screw my parents company and their damn merger I was not going through with this. With new determination I stalked into my house.“Dad ” I shouted as I entered the house. The light in the den was on so I went there, he was sitting there with my ‘mother’. “I’m not doing this I will not marry him ”
“Well, that’s too bad Mallory. No matter what you say or what you want matters you will be marrying him.” my mother said not even looking up from whatever the hell she was reading.
“Screw you,” I spat “you can’t make me marry him.”
“Actually I can.” she smiled holding out a folder to me.
I snatched it out of her hands and opened it. My heart sank to the pit of my stomach and a sob was caught in my throat. I read the papers in my hands over and over again the words never changing. This wasn’t happening to me, it couldn’t be happening to me.
“In case you don’t know what that means, let me explain it to you.” My mother said leaning back in her seat with a smirk on her face. “What you are holding is a legal document stating that the eldest child from both families are to be married once they are both of legal age. So, regardless on if you want to marry him or not, you really have no choice.”
The bitch had the audacity to look smug. I looked to my father, he was staring into his glass of scotch. He wasn’t going to say anything? Nothing? Was I really such a bad daughter that they had to pretty much sell me off? Looking back at my mother with hate in my eyes, I slapped across the face just like she had done to me. She stood in shock, not believing that I had just done that.
“I hate you ” I spat “You are no mother of mine.”
I ran back out of the house and to my car. There was no way I could stay in a house with the two of them. I never wanted to go back there again but, I knew I would have too. It just wouldn’t be happening tonight. Pulling out of my drive way Xavier’s car pulled up behind me. I didn’t want to see him.
“Mallory? ” he shouted running up to my door.
