It was a beautiful day outside, the birds were singing, the flowers were blooming, it was the perfect day for anybody's first day on the job. Sportacus (we will call him Sportty) was finally hired after his long search for a job. Today, he would be the new gym/health teacher at Meanswell High. The principle wasn't very good at naming the place, so he decided to use his name for it. It was a brand new school with new students. He wore his gym clothes under his normal clothes, and once he was sure he was looking sharp, he grabbed his bag and jogged to the school.
Like mentioned, the school was new. It was a bricked school with white painted columns at the entrance. The busses haven't arrived yet, and Sportty was happy he was early. He was shown around the school a couple times by some of the other teachers a few days ago, but he was still sure he would get lost in the twisting mazes that were called hallways. After 23 minutes of searching for the gym, he saw some kids walking in the halls. It was a small group of kids, but they looked like they got along well. They all walked into the same classroom, and he decided to keep looking.
After another 12 minutes, the bell rang. He still hasn't found his way to the gym, so he thought it would be best to ask one of the other teachers where the gym was. The closest room was B-12, and he quickly walked into the open door leading into the room. It was a dim lighted space with about 30 desks arranged in rows. Some kids were already sitting down, waiting for instruction when he arrived. The teacher was sitting at his desk reading papers and sorting cards. There was a name card on his desk which read 'Robbie Rotten, meanest math teacher in school.' The last part was scribbled in from a student he had in the past. He must not have minded it or he would've gotten a new name tag. He looked upset while he was dealing with the mess of papers, but he still went up to approach him. He looked up when he spoke, and Sportty got a better view of him. He was tall, had slick black hair, an angled chin, and a set of blue eyes.
"Excuse me Mr. Rotten, bu-" Sportty didn't even get the chance to finish his sentence.
"Umm no, call me Rob please. Only the kids can call me Rotten." He retorted with a grin. However, his brows were scrunched together, and it looked like he wasn't in the mood for chatter.
"Well, excuse me Rob, but I'm fairly new to this school and I would just like to know where the gym is. If you could, do you think you could tell me where to go?"
"Why didn't you ask sooner! It's down the hall to the right, then you take two lefts and its a straight shot from there."
"Thanks Rob," the final bell rung, "I better get to class!"
"Have a wonderful day." Robbie said with a fake smile.
He ended up making it to the gym 5 minutes after the final bell. It was a fair size for a gymnasium. There was a lot of equipment and even a small office room that also allowed him to see the whole gym through the windows. He was excited to get started! Sadly, kids didn't arrive till next period and the only thing that could take up his extra time was exercising, so about after 45 minutes of hardcore work-out, he had done 1474 pushups, 1024 curls, 64 laps around the gym, and a lot of gymnastics and didn't even break a sweat. Soon after, the bell rang again and kids rushed into the gym. Quickly, Sportty got into position and greeted his new students.
"Welcome everyone, to gym class! I will be your new teacher, Sportacus, and I hope to get to know all of you as well!" He smiled. He looked around at his students and noticed one of the students was part of the group from earlier. Her friends weren't with her but she still looked happy. She raised her hand. "Yes, you with the pink hair?"
"Hi! My name is Stephanie. I'm just wondering what we will be doing this semester in class?" She was obviously a happy camper.
"Well, I will be teaching health class next 9 weeks, but for this 9 weeks, we will be doing physical learning along with daily exercise and watching your progress as you advance into the next level of the class." Sporty replied. He was happy to see someone interested in physical learning.
As class progressed, a lot of kids were breaking down and sweating a lot. Sportacus decided to join the class, and managed to do 1974 pushups, 1542 curls, and 78 laps around the gym without breaking a sweat. He drank a lot of water, ate some apples and vegetables, and did some flips and all sorts of tricks to motivate the kids. Instead of working out, the kids were recording him and texting their friends. He didn't want to be the bad guy, but they couldn't be on their phones during this period, so he collected everyone's phones while also doing back hand springs and cartwheels. They didn't like the fact that their phones were taken away, but they were amused with his tricks.
After a short time, the bell rung again and the kids gathered their phones and belongings. They flooded out the gymnasium and quickly made their way to their next class. It was another class filled with new students. After 2 more periods, it was lunch time and Sportacus made his way to the teacher's lounge. He somehow made it there without trouble finding it. There was a collection of different teachers in the room already. The vice principle, Ms. Busybody, was even sitting down on a couch eating some potato chips. He looked around for an available seat, and was glad to see that all the seats near Robbie were open. He pulled out a chair and sat down right next to him. To his confusion, some of the other teachers looked shocked or gasped, but there didn't seem to be anything wrong around him, so he just shrugged it off.
"So, how was math class?" Sportacus asked Robbie. More whispers came from his co-workers, and he rolled his eyes. Rob didn't reply immediately, at first he just looked up at him wondering why he even asked, but then he responded.
"It was as 'fun' as always. Kids throwing paper planes, spitballs flying everywhere, gum under the desks, the usual bad behavior from kids."
"The only misbehavior that came from my students were the phones and the fact that other than Stephanie, none of the other kids were active." He chuckled.
"Your job sounds better than mine at least. Nobody likes math and nobody likes a teacher who is 'strict.' It's all about being 'hip' and 'cool' these days. There is no respect for the old times." The last words made Sportacus wander about how old Robbie is. He looked only a couple years older, but he could be wrong.
"Maybe you need to bring a little fun and joy into the classroom. The kids will behave if they have a little space to do what they want. Having a little leisure never hurt anybody, it's actually good to have some." He explained.
"That sounds like a good idea. I'll be sure to try that next period. Thanks for the advice newbie." Robbie joked and laughed a little bit. This made some of the other teachers gasp even more and look uncertain. Sportty just ignored them and they continued their conversation. They made each other laugh a few times, and they got along well. Sportty enjoyed his time with Robbie. He was a genuinely nice guy, and he wondered why the other teachers stayed away from him, but he quickly dismissed the thought. The bell rang, the two men said their goodbyes, and went back to their classrooms.
The day went on just fine for both teachers and they met back up after school. They planned
