What is Dissociation?

Dissociation is, like, when you "zone out". When your conscience is pushed to the back and your mind is focused on nothing, like how you get when working on a specific project or pastime. Everyone's experienced dissociation, but not as severe a type of dissociation as me

It takes me about a minute to switch from "Finny" to "Will", and it's more just like I zone out and stay half-asleep until it's my turn again. I can't really remember what Will does, and I don't think she can remember what I do, either. I'm the most frequent, so we agreed I'm the original.

I'd like to share a funny story before we continue.

Sometimes, I mail letters to Will. Yes, it's funny, but it's something that helps me cope. I mail letters to my own address, and Will reads them. That's how we communicate. It's funny, I really am my own best friend.

Will does different things than me. She talks differently, walks differently, she even has different favorite things. (Besides food, of course. We love fries.) Her favorite color is Red. Mine is Green. Her favorite book genre is fiction. Mine is mystery. But, we're really more alike than unalike. We have the same body, of course.

It's the same for others who are affected. I wouldn't call it "suffering", but for some it could be worse. Perhaps far worse.

Some people say that the other personalities may not even exist, that it's just something I've made up to cope with some other mental disorders, and that's what the doctors treat, not another person in general.

I've chosen not to undergo treatment. Instead of being afraid of my disorder, I embrace it, and hope to teach it. Will is me, and I am Will. I don't know who will be ripped away if I treat this, me or Will, but I'll lose something either way. Will is a part of my family, and I love her very much. I consider her my sister. :)

Maybe I can get her to write a chapter, too.
