"You want to come to another practice?"
You were currently eating lunch in the cafeteria when the captain came and joined you.
"Oh hey!" you smiled at him.
"Sooo...?" he questioned you.
"Well I'm not really sure. I mean I'm not a member so I shouldn't be there as often as one."
"But you could be our manager, won't ya?" he winked at you while stuffing some chips in his left cheek like a chipmunk.
"Erm, nah not really."
"Why?"
You thought for a while if you should lie but decided to tell him the truth.
"Because there are some people I don't really want to see again."
"Ohhhhhh," he extended the 'oh' part for quite a while before he showed you a grin and continued:
"Let me guess. Arakita?"
You dropped your cutlery.
"W-what? Pfft as if I would care about him...Well, it's not untrue that I don't want to see him either," you added meekly.
"Is that so? Who else could it be, let me think."
"NO, don't!" you screamed.
While you tried to bring him up from figuring out who you meant, you guys were a bit too loud. A pair of girls passed by your table with their plates and whispered to each other loud enough for you to hear:
"Oh there she goes again. Everyday she has a new guy. Shame on her."
You bit on your tongue and held back any remarks but in truth it did hurt you. Who wouldn't feel down if so many rumors , and those kind of rumors, were going around?
"You alright? You seem out of it, aren't ya?"
"Mhmm, yea...yea sorry. I was just thinking about something haha."
"Well, I'll buy you dessert if you come to our practice!"
"Ok deal but I want the ones from that place Kim-Huh? Are you alright?" you were worried about him since he couldn't stop coughing.
"A....are you s-e--- serious??" he stopped coughing and successfully swallowed down the bit of whatever food it was that got stuck in his throat, and looked at you as if he couldn't believe you just tried to kill him.
"Why what's wrong? ... Do you need some water?"
"Nah, I'm fine but do you have any idea how expensive that is?"
"Yeah but you offered me so I thought I'd take you up on that generous offer, anything wrong with that?" innocently you batted your eyelashes.
The surrounding noises were drowning out his cheeky remark. You looked around and realised that more and more people came to the cafeteria.
"So?" you questioned him pretending not to hear what he said before. He blew a strand of hair out of his face.
"Fine," he finally agreed and stood up.
"Let's go," he smirked.
Grinning back you followed him outside the campus. You both were almost near the club house when you suddenly stood still in your tracks.
Huh? What is wrong with me? Why is my heart beating so heavy?
You clenched your shirt. Unlike feeling your heart would burst out, it rather felt like it was hammering heavy against your lungs. It hit you deep and a sharp pain spread in your thorax. You slowly took deep breaths in order to calm down.
"Are you alright?" he came back worried.
You just nodded in return and indicated to walk forward. Why were you so nervous? You've already been there and met everyone, so why were you feeling this way? Whatever it was you hoped Kinjou would also be there. You haven't seen him since yesterday's second period.
The captain opened the door and revealed the sight of young male students in their uniforms. A sweaty smell was lingering in the air and you tried not to cover your nose with your hands because you didn't want to seem rude.
But seriously they need to change their club room. Such a small window for such a sweaty sport? That's unacceptable.
You looked through the room and couldn't find Kinjou but your eyes landed on Arakita who didn't even realise you guys entered. But once the captain greeted everyone, he briefly looked up and your eyes met, however he instantly averted his gaze and let out a small "Tch".
You could still hear it.
Rude.
But somehow it tugged on your heart. You clenched your shirt again.
It hurts. A lo-
"Oh, didn't know you were going to come," Kinjou came.
You waved him hello and smiled. It was nice seeing Kinjou and you were relieved he was here.
"Aha Kinjou, your girlfriend came to see you? Ah how nice that must be," the other boys were forming little hearts with their hands and laughed.
"This is not a place for your girlfriend to come in as she wants to. Didn't I already tell you Kinjou?" Arakita made an unpleasant noise with his tongue. He stood up and said without ever giving you a glance:
"Now that the captain is finally here. Can we go and practice?"
Although you guys were like only 10 minutes late and well, it was part of your fault for arguing too long with the captain.
"Come on. Take it easy, Arakita. Don't make the atmosphere bad for her," the captain winked at you.
"Tch if I care for that stupid idiot," he hissed.
Wow that sounded really hostile.
"Aw come on Arakita don't be such a drag. Kinjou's girlfriend just wants to cheer her boyfriend on,"
Can you believe those are grown ass students?, you thought while watching them form kiss mouths.
Kinjou and you looked at each other while rolling your eyes.
"Guys. We are not dating. Please stop saying th-"
"Woahhh what are you shy for, Kinjou? Come on, tell us have you already been on the first or is it second base, hmm wait give me a second. I know this stuff."
"Shut up cherry boy. Just lets be frank. Have you guys done it?"
This ridiculous act didn't stop and so you stood there awkwardly watching the usually calm Kinjou getting more and more impatient trying to tell them that you guys weren't dating. The captain didn't make things any better, he just laughed the whole time and cracked jokes while hitting you ungently on the back every few minutes.
Whilst you continued to fake smile until your cheeks hurt, you could see out of your eye corner Arakita, who has been quiet ever since, stand up and made his way to the door. Suddenly, you felt nervous again, your heart made irrational jumps while you couldn't stop yourself from staring at him.
Why is it that everytime I see him in his uniform my heart starts to be weird?
You didn't know what you expected but somehow you hoped he would scream at you and tell you it was all your fault they couldn't start practicing. However, he never once laid his eyes on you and with him passing you, he left a small gust of wind behind to fiddle with your hair.
There you stood with eyes wide open staring at the ground, hair hiding your face and your hand again clenched on your shirt.
There you stood cursing everyone and everything as you didn't know the cause of all this.
