May I Have This Dance?

Lisa's POV

It's been precisely three months and four days since Shane and I have gotten back together. We couldn't be happier. I smile, watching him adjust his suit jacket as he looks in the mirror.

"You look so sexy babe!" I say in admiration before hopping off of the bed and wrapping my arms around him from behind.

He gives me a small smile through the mirror. "Thanks," he says sheepishly. I can tell he struggled saying that. I place a kiss to his back.

"I'm proud of you. You're starting to accept compliments!"

"Doesn't mean I believe them," he says under his breath. I wrap my arms tighter around him.

"Oh shut up, you're beautiful. Now turn around."

He slowly faces me. I grab his tie off of the bed, putting it around his neck and then I start to tie it. He sighs, "I know how to tie them."

I shrug, "I know, but I like doing it."

He smiles and runs his hand through his hair. "Well you," Shane looks me up and down. He shakes his head, "Look gorgeous. I mean shit. You're stunning!"

I giggle and look down while blushing. He puts his finger on my chin and lifts my head to look at him. He leans down and kisses me lovingly.

"Thank you," I whisper against his lips. I tighten his tie and pull away.

"Okay babe let's go get this wedding over with," I say with a sigh.

He nods and looks in the mirror once more. Shane and I are going to one of our old friend's wedding today and we couldn't be dreading it more. We hate weddings. We used to go to so many and every time it's the same thing. We sit there and watch everyone have fun. I feel awful because Shane feels so self-conscious at weddings. He hates wearing suits and he hates being looked at in said suit. He feels fat in them even though by no means is he. I love it when he wears them, so it makes me sad that he doesn't feel confident in them.

I leave a kiss to his cheek. My lips brushing against his stubble. "You look amazing, babe. Are you ready?"

He stares in the mirror and after a few moments he nods. I grab his arm and lead him out of the house and to the car.

We park and I look over to Shane. He's looking down at his lap and taking a deep breath. I put my hand on his bicep. My heart aches when he cringes at my touch. I remove my hand and look at him lovingly. "Sweetheart-"

"I'm fine. Go on out, I just need a few minutes to myself if that's okay," he says quietly, on the verge of crying.

I grab his hand and give it a small squeeze. "Honey, I love you. And I don't want you to shut me out. I know what you're going through. I want to go through it with you. I want to be here for you in every way."

His eyes flicker up to meet mine. His lip quivers and tears begin to trickle down his face.  I unbuckle my seatbelt, open my arms and pull him into me. I hold his face in my arms, tracing soothing circles on his cheek with my thumb. He sniffles, burying his head into my neck. I close my eyes and put my hand in his hair, messaging his head gently.

I lean down and kiss his tears away. Shane grabs a fistful of my shirt. "I tried not to," he whispers.

I put my hand on his back and rub it. "Tried not to what?" I ask.

"Tried not to...tried not to be sad. I always ruin your time because of how depressed I am and I hate myself for that. I don't want you to not enjoy yourself because of me."

I push his little curls out of his eyes. "Sweetheart," I pull him closer to me, "When will you realize that you make me happy? You don't ruin anything for me. You are my favorite person in the whole world and you could never make me enjoy something any less, hell you make me enjoy everything so much more. Because you," I grab his hand, move it up to my lips and kiss it softly, "Are the love of my life. And I do not intend on letting you go ever again. But, if you do get to the point where you are unhappy with our relationship, you need to tell me. I just want what is best for you."

Shane looks up at me, shaking his head. He grabs my face in his hands. "I love you. And guess what? As cheesy as it sounds, I'm not sure about most things in my life. But you my love," he pushes a strand of my hair behind my ear, "I'm most certainly sure I want to be with you."

I blush at his sweet words. I swear I'm the luckiest girl on the planet. I've never met a more respectful man. We share a long kiss before pulling away. Shane grabs my hand, gives it a small squeeze and nods his head toward the direction of the building. Let's go. We still have ten minutes until the wedding starts."

Shane and I sit at a table with Jess and a few other of our friends. All of us are bored out of our minds. One thing we all share is the fact that we hate weddings. I sadly look onto the dance floor at all of the happy couples slow dancing.

My eyes flicker up to Shane who now has stood up and is in front of me. I smile at him, "You okay?"

He nods and stretches his arm out, his palm facing the ceiling. I raise my eyebrows at him.

"May I have this dance, my lady?" He asks in a deep tone.

I giggle and exchange glances with Jess, who's smirking at me. I happily take his hand and follow him to the dance floor. Judging by the way his eyes are scanning the room, I can tell he's nervous. I reassuringly place a kiss to his cheek while wrapping my arms around his neck.

"Honey. It's okay, nobody is looking at you. Just pretend I am the only person here. You love to dance! Don't make this a big deal," I whisper into his ear.

He shakes his head, "But it is a big deal. Because I never danced with you at weddings or parties. I need this to be good. I'm sorry I didn't dance with you, Lisa. I really am."

I play with the collar on his shirt as I look into his piercing eyes. I give him a sympathetic smile. "Oh love, it's okay. You're all I needed. Not some stupid dance. This is just the cherry on top." I lean in and we share a short kiss. "Now come on Dawson, show me your hot moves!" I say with a wink.

He rolls his eyes jokingly before putting his hands firmly on my lower back. We stare into one another's eyes, all the while swaying to the slow rhythm. We seem to be in some sort of trance, not noticing the other couples around us. Our eyes are locked the entire dance. Nothing but love radiates off of our bodies. Shane dips and twirls me to the music, smiles etched onto both of our faces throughout the song.

After imagining this moment for the longest time, I am finally living it. And I have to say, I never imagined it to be this perfect. But there are some things I have always been certain of. Shane will always be the one that can make me melt just with his laugh. He will always be the one that can drive me crazy, yet I will still want to be around him. He will always be the one that I will want to hold me in his arms and never let go.

He will always be the one I want to exchange my wedding vows with.
