It was four years later, and I was still trapped in this horrible place. A small, dank cell was no place for anybody, especially the innocent. As far as I knew all the people there were innocent. Of course, they didn't give us time to socialize.
There were tons of us. All of us trapped and destined for the same fate as everyone else there. Death.
All we were to them was lab rats, guinea pigs to be tested on. They didn't even treat us as humans. They referred to us as subjects, and specimen.
"Subject 2-23, it's time," said a tall woman in a white lab coat. She'd opened the door and was gesturing for me to hurry.
Hesitantly, I stepped towards the door. The woman's face told me I did not want to disobey her, so I slowly stepped through the door.
It was time for our weekly "inspections" Everyone was lined up outside of their cell, waiting in horrible anticipation.
"You know the drill!" the woman yelled, "Everybody in a straight line, time for inspection."
I could never stand still during inspection. I would shake violently every single time. All I could do was pray that they wouldn't choose me. Like I said that would mean death. Anyone chosen never came back.
"What are we testing this week?" asked the woman.
"Aviation, I believe," answered a man, also in a white lab coat.
The two studied us for a few minutes, "Come here," the man commanded, pointing to a small boy.
The boy bravely stepped forward. Immediately, I knew that this guy was new. Otherwise, he would be cowering in a corner, wishing he had never been born. Obviously he didn't know what was going on around here.
"He'll do fine," he commented.
"And you, also come here," said the woman, pointing to me.
I glanced at her nervously, then took a step closer, and another. I was so close she could almost touch me, and I refused to get any closer.
She took one look at me then said, "The rest of you are dismissed. Subject 2-23 and 11-59 come with me."
I knew I would be chosen at one point, but I didn't realize it would be now. There was no way I could've prepared myself for this, and now that the time was here, I just felt like falling to the floor. 'A heart attack would be a much better way to go' I thought to myself.
We passed through dozens of hallways, filled with starving captives, and went up dozens of staircases. Finally we came across a door. A door with sunlight shining through. The first peek of natural light I'd gotten since... Since the incident.
There were two doctors standing at the door. One of the things I had come to hate in the four years in my solitary cell. Every once in a while, a doctor would come by to inject us with painful concoctions, that would leave us writhing in our cages for hours, days, or weeks even.
I hadn't realized that I was frozen in place, until the man in the lab coat pushed me forward. There was no way I would knowingly get any closer to the doctors. I began backing away, when I felt rough hands grab me around my arms. Slowly they dragged me towards them. I fought back with all my might, but it wasn't enough. I was weak from lack of exercise and starvation. I stood no chance.
The boy next to me had already given up, and had been sedated. Next to him two other girls had also been sedated. I watched in horror as they brought out a needle, and as the sharp point pierced my skin, and suddenly I was out cold.
