Chapter 7

Nina POV

I turn around and whisper,

“Goodbye Ian.” Then I walk away.

I know he needs to leave, to forget, and for him this is the only way.

*someone knocks*

I open the door and it’s Derek.

“Hey, what are you doing here?” I ask him as I let him in.

“Did you know Ian’s leaving town?” He asks.

“Yeah, I do.” I say while looking down. “Actually he came by this morning to tell me.” I explain.

“Oh.” He says.

“Is that all you came here for?”

“Actually no, I came here to check up on you. Ian kinda heated up on you at the wedding. Are you okay now?” He says concernedly.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. We kinda patched things up this morning. He told me he needed time away and he asked me to try my best to be happy. It kinda made some weight lift off my shoulders.” I say with a sigh.

“That’s good.”

“Derek…”

“Nina, I know you don’t need to say it. I can wait. I know you need time too, I understand. And by how Ian reacted at the wedding he misinterpreted the whole dance thing. I’m sorry if it caused an argument and I’m glad you patched things up.” He says.

“Don’t wait Derek, because I won’t make any promises. I can’t hurt another one again.” I tell him.

“I’m not expecting Nina and I’m not asking you to promise. I’ll just wait until I can because I can’t look back at this time and know that I didn’t try because I really like you.” He says sincerely.

“I won’t ask you to do anything because it’s not my choice. I’m just telling you that I won’t promise because right now I’m confused myself. I can’t make real decisions right now.”

“I know. That’s exactly why I’m going to wait.”

“It’s your choice.”

He turns around, walks towards the door looks back at me,

“I’ll see you when I see you then.”

I nod and I give him a half smile.

Ian left.

Derek is waiting.

What the hell?

Is the universe playing some kind of sick trick on me?

Did they make one leave and another appear so I would just keep hurting them?

This is just so complicated!

Will I even consider Derek?

Maybe.

No!

Why not?

Because it would just make things worse with Ian.

But Ian is leaving for a year.

So?

He’ll probably have moved on by the time he comes back.

What if he didn’t?

Why am I even have an argument with myself?

God I'm going nuts!
