"Get up, you're running late!"
Yep.. that was my mum. Telling me to wake up and get ready for my first ever gymnastics trials since I broke my leg a couple of years ago doing a backflip on the beam.
I was nervous. I wasn't used to getting into this schedule again. We finally arrived at the gym. As I walked in, I had all these memories flowing through my head. I tried shaking it off but they just kept coming through. As I looked at the beam, I saw my self falling off the beam and rushing to hospital. It was the worst day of my life. The day I thought I would die. The day I thought it was the last day of me EVER doing gymnastics.
I tried ignoring everything that happened in the past and trying to think about the good times I'll try to make this year at the gym. I got signed in and I was ready to go.
All of these girls are so good... anyway, back to me.
"Alright, I heard you have some skills still. Am I right?" Said the coach.
"Yep, I sure do." I replied.
"Alright go ahead."
We started off with floor. The main apparatus I was best at. I started off with some old skills. Roundoff, front walkover, press handstand, front flip, back flip, Ariel. I tried attempting my other skills such as no handed front and back. I still had them in me but not as good, which made me angry. But I knew I was gonna be back on track.
I did well on floor. I could tell she was impressed.
"Very good.." she said.
I had a good feeling about this. The next was bars. My second strongest. As I finished on the bars, we walked over to beam. As I got up on the beam, I was shaking, my arms and legs. I looked down from the beam and felt dizzy.
"It's alright." Coach Mary said.
"Start off with a handstand to back handspring."
So I did. I blocked out everything around me. Trying to focus. I did my handstand into a back handspring. And landed perfectly.
I was impressed. Coach Mary was impressed.
"Good Job jasmine!! See? nothing to worry about my dear."
We completed all 5 apparatus. Then it was time to go home.
" tomorrow, when you come back, I will tell you where you stand."
I jumped into the car as I was telling mum how impressed she was. My mum was pleased to hear that. Before I stopped gym for a while, I competed in level 9 while I was on level 8. We finally arrived home. I was exhausted and so I had an early dinner and went to bed. But I couldn't stop thinking of what level I would end up being in. I really didn't want to move down. So basically that kept me up all night...
