Her name is Rebecca, the ones close to her call her Becky. She lives in Manchester with her mum, step dad and slightly younger sister Scarlet. 3 years between them to be exact.
Her life hasn't always been a walk in the park, although who's has? Life is always going to throw obstacles in your way but Rebecca has just had more bumps in hers than most.
Her hands let the thin piece of paper float onto the desk as she remembers the day her dad left the family. Her eyes scanned over the date that had haunted her until now. Why did he have to leave? She questions her self. Something about business reasons she recalls. It would have had to be important for him to have left the family he once loved so much. Her fingertips lightly press down on the corners of the note. She was fighting everything in herself not to tear it into tiny little pieces. She was still scarred with what that man had left her.
Her mum lost a husband and gained another partner. Little did she know at the time that this man would be responsible for doing what he did to Rebecca and her mum.
"Becky?" Her tiny voice whimpered.
The little girl was pushed back into the closet out of the way and out of sight. Her sobs echoed around the room as the older girl hesitated on her next move. "Scarlet you need to trust me okay?" She said over her heavy breathing, hoping that the girl heard her through the wooden door separating the two. "Just stay in here" The last thing that left her lips before she was dragged from the room.
Her eyes watered from the memory as she pushed it back away. She stumbled from her stool as she arises setting the note from her table back into the top draw. She gathered some of the clothing that was lying on the end of her bed and neatly folded it into the case. She took one last big sigh as she zipped it up and set it in front of the bed. Her eyes set gaze around her room as she let out a hopeful nod that she had everything. She grabbed the small black handle of her boring grey case and began to wheel it out of the already open door. Down the hallway she pulled it until she reached the stairs. Her head turned to the right where the smaller girl was stood. She held a hopeful smile as she approached. Scarlet held out her arms and clung to the frame of her older sister.
"I'm going to miss you so much!" She spoke and though it came out muffled it was clearly understood.
"I know, I'm going to miss you too. But you know you're safe now. nothing can hurt you now"
Rebecca firmly pulled away from her. "If you ever need anything you call me yeah?"
She avoided eye contact as she picked her case up once again and trudged down the stairs with scarlet slowly following in her foot steps. She dropped the luggage at the front door where her mum and boyfriend were standing. Rebecca had no doubts about this one, Paul had been a friend of the family for years, he would never put harm on the family. That had been the only thing stopping her from moving away. The safety of her family. But now she was 18 and knew that her mum and sister were safe she was free to go and escape, live her life. She said her fare wells to them all before advancing out of the door, not looking back afraid she would not be able to leave them. She placed her things in the back of the taxi that was taking her to the train station.
Getting off the train she brought out her phone to check her destination. It wasn't far to walk from the station to her new flat here in London. She rounded the corner wheeling her suitcase behind her lifting it up now and again to reduce the amount of noise it was making as it scraped against the concrete below. She soon came face to face with the new complex she would be living in for the next how ever long. She searched her pocket of the dark blue jean jacket she was wearing in order to find the key. After being successful she placed it into the hole and turned it. The door bounced open, a sigh of relief leaving her lips as she proceeded through. Everything seemed to be going well so far which was a bonus. Now that she was finally settled in she was exhausted. Not in the mood to sleep nor unpack she came up with the crazy idea of taking a small tour of the area.
She re brushed her medium length brown hair; not that it would make a difference as the wind was blowing steadily outside and set the brush down on the small oak desk in her room. Grabbing her small shoulder bag off of the hook she placed her phone and purse inside it and opened the door for the second time of her living there. Making her way out of the hallway she stepped onto the street that wasn't yet too familiar. She spotted what looks like a small coffee shop toward the end of the street and began to stroll towards it taking in the surroundings at the same time. There were a couple of tree's here and there and a small patch of green to the side of a few houses but apart from that nothing out of the ordinary for a modern London street.
The door made a dinging sound as she entered. Still a bit dazed from the long journey she stood behind the two people queuing at the front. There weren't many people in there but at the same time not too little. There was a boy sitting in the corner, he had brown quiffed hair but you couldn't see any real detail as his head was tilted down and was writing something down. She didn't pay extra importance to the people seated anyway and walked further towards the counter as one person went to take a seat. "One tea with 2 sugars to take away please". She patiently waited for her order to be made and then handed over the correct amount of money she had foraged from her purse.
She grabbed the warm drink and started walking to the exit in a hurry. She saw the mysterious boy stand up from his seat and take the same path as her but it was too late for her to stop. She bumped into his side and her tea was thrown all over her. He however was unharmed but his features could tell different. His jaw was clenched. "Would you watch where you are walking?!" He spat. She was taken aback by this sudden outburst. "I'm ss-sor-" She stuttered but he interrupted her. "I don't care". He retorted. Her eyes glistened a bit and she continued her way out of the shop. His eyes softened for a split second but after that his face returned to neutral as he too exited the shop and went on his way.
