Jimmy walked out onto the sand and stood several yards from the rolling surf. The salty smell of the crashing waves greeted his nose pleasantly and rejuvenated his spirits as he stood there. He sat down in the sand for a minute staring out across the ocean until his posture gradually slumped and his body eventually laid back into the sand.
The long drive had made Jimmy sleepy, and this moment of relaxation finally brought the urge to sleep into his consciousness. Jimmy closed his eyes and let the melodic sounds of the beach lull him to sleep.
"Hey!"
"Wake up! You can't sleep here."
"Excuse me. Are you alright?" inquired a nearby voice.
Jimmy sat up abruptly. The voice's body jumped back a few feet from where Jimmy was sitting. It was a woman; she stared intently at Jimmy but looked cautious about moving closer again. The sun had begun to set on the horizon and many of the beachgoers had already gone home or begun to leave.
"Are you alright?" asked the woman again.
Jimmy brushed sand from his face and ruffled his hair. He was confused at first but remembered where he was as the sound of waves rushed back into his mind.
"I'm fine," replied Jimmy, brushing more sand from his body as he slowly stood up. "I guess I dozed off for a while. What time is it?"
"It's almost seven-o-clock. I was worried something might be wrong. I saw you laying here in the sand for several hours," the woman answered.
"Thanks, but I'm alright. I was just resting my eyes a bit while I'm out here," Jimmy said assuringly as he finally took the time to look at the woman he was speaking to.
She had long black hair and wore a warm smile that revealed dazzling teeth. In her arm was a blue towel wrapped around a bottle of water. Her eyes were a deep, rich brown, and beneath her smooth, tan skin was a frame that showed her nicely crafted physique, on top of which she wore an elegant bathing suit that was green with gold accents.
"You're not from around here, are you?" she chuckled knowingly.
"Is it that obvious?"
"A bit," she chuckled again. "What's your name?"
"Johnathan. And you are...miss...?" Jimmy asked with his hand outstretched.
"Kari," she replied and took Jimmy's hand, but to her surprise he did not shake her hand. Instead, he raised it to his lips and softly kissed it! This took her by surprise, and she inhaled sharply before catching her breath again. This man was the first to kiss her hand, and, frankly, she thought he was kind of handsome. It was a bonus that he had an amazing body, which she could see beneath his unbuttoned shirt that was flapping in the wind.
"It is nice to meet you Kari," Jimmy said charmingly as he let go of his acquaintance's hand.
The two talked more intently as they walked towards the path leading off the beach and to the parking lot. Kari was a year older and worked as a fashion consultant for a regional magazine and part-time model in her free time.
She gave Jimmy her number and invited him to dine with her at a local restaurant. Jimmy accepted her invitation, and the two agreed to meet again at eight-o-clock outside the Elegance, a restaurant across town. Kari got in her car and drove off. Jimmy got into his car and drove into town in search of a hotel where he could check in and take a shower.
