I walk to my first class with a newfound popularity and feeling.
I felt my cheeks glowing with a blush. All the girls stared at me with jealously, whispering and pointing. I can't believe just running into that guy would change so much.
I brush past more girls when I walk into Math Class.
The class room ins't as crowded as the halls (where I ran into people constantly and had to push my way through violently) so I thank God for that. There is a cluster of kids standing at the front of the room, a tall woman is standing there as well.
She looks about 30 and has black hair in a ponytail. She is wearing bell bottoms, high heels and a green blazer. I assume that she is the teacher and if my class schedule is correct her name is Anne Sweet.
"Good morning." She says nodding at me. "Please stand at the front of the room so I can announce seating arrangements."
I do as she requests and look at the rest of the people in my class. There are cheerleaders, football players, bad boys, goth kids, geeks and list goes on. I'm not really friends with anyone there (at least anyone that i can see) except Kathy, my best girl friend from Jr. High. James may be a great guy but there are times when I just want to hang out with a girl.
As soon as Kathy sees me her eyes light up. Before she can say anything, Mrs. Sweet starts to talk, "Quiet please, I will be telling you where to sit. Pines!!!!" She yells referring to Luke Pines, the linebacker on the school's football team and a friend of James, he is flirting with a cheerleader. "Stop flirting and pay attention!" Luke's eyes widened and his face turns a light shade of red.
Mrs. Sweet starts walking around the room yelling out names and pointing to seats. I sit in the back of the room with a guy, I don't recognize the name but as soon as he sits down I see who it is and feel like I'm gonna faint.
"It's the bad boy from the hall!!! His name is Matt!" I squeal quietly to myself.
"Hey sweet thing," He begins and as soon as he says it I can feel the blood rush to my cheeks and then I feel light headed. "I told you I would see you around." He says flirtatiously as gives me a smile.
'Don't faint, don't faint, don't faint!!!!' I say inside my head but aloud I say something else, "If you consider math class 'around' I mean it's a square room and I had to walk a hexagonal path to get here." I ramble like an idiot.
Instead of pointing and laughing at me Matt nods and opens his mouth to say something, but is interrupted by Mrs. Sweet.
"Please open your Math Books to page 13, this vocabulary will be your homework tonight along with getting the syllabus signed by both you and your parents."
"God dang it, Mrs. Sweet!" I hiss under my breath, he could've been proposing, unlikely but a possibility!
"What was that Ms Bennel?"
'Curse her bat like hearing!'
"Uh, I..." I stammered, unable to find an answer. Then Matt cuts in, "She was just saying how much she was looking forward to this class and that she was going to work very hard on the homework tonight."
"Alright, but no more talking in class Madeline!" She returns her attention to her planing book at begins telling us a course description.
I honor the 'no talking' rule and mouth 'thank you' to Matt. He smiles and mouths back 'no prob.' I begin to blush at him and he just grins wider.
I make like a dog and continue to drool over Matt.
