Many years ago a child was born. Her mother was mortal but her father was a member of the fae. During this time many faeries and mortals were at war and the two species were forbidden to be seen together. A faery man named Geratrund did not believe in this war and disobeyed the laws of his people, for he met with a beautiful mortal named Chryssal.

They were truly in love and sought out to be together for the rest of their lives. Soon Chryssal brought forth their child. Her name was Robbyn. She had beautiful brown hair and freckles from which she inherited from her mother. But she had piercing amber eyes, a sharp nose, and pale skin from her father. Geratrund and Chryssal knew they must keep the child a secret, otherwise she could be killed by the faery court.

Though the couple tried to keep their poor child hidden from the faeries and mortals, they found out. The faery court was furious with the couple and secretly sent a faery to kill the parents and child. Before the faery left the court decided to keep the  child alive but place a curse upon it. The faery then left to complete the job bestowed upon him. He crept through the forest to reach a small, hidden cottage ,in the middle of the forest.

The faery flew through an open window and then retained its human sized form. He had a rigid dagger hidden in a small pouch that was slowly taken to kill the parents. The faery raised the dagger as he saw Chryssal and Geratrund sleeping on a small bed. As he brought the dagger down and struck Chryssal , Geratrund woke with fury in his eyes. He ran up to the faery to choke him but was too late, for the faery had already struck him in the stomach. Geratrund cried as his life drained away and saw the faery take his beautiful Robbyn away.

The faery took Robbyn back to the faery court where her curse would be decided. As he carried Robbyn into the court the faeries came a crowded around her, hand in hand. They began the curse on the child. The head of the court said these words:

For you, child, we will give the curse of cold.

You will be outcasted among others.

You will not be accepted.

For now you will slumber for many years until the time for you to wake comes.

After he said these words Robbyn began to change. Her hair once a golden-brown faded to a snowy white. Her freckles faded away as her skin became so pale it was almost the same as her hair. Her eyes changed from a gorgeous amber color to a pale icy blue. She no longer was a child of Chryssal and Geratrund but a child of cold. She closed her eyes and fell into a deep slumber for which she wouldn't age, just sleep.

The faery that killed Robbyn's parent wrapped the child in cloth and carried Robbyn to a cave where she would sleep until it was time for her to awaken. Many hundreds of years passed until Robbyn finally awoke. The faery carried Robbyn to an orphanage where she would grow up carrying the curse. This was the beginning of her new life.
