During the first ten minutes of Nick and his crew following us around, I confirmed two facts about this guy:
1.) He was overly confident and way too cocky for his own good.
2.) Despite his charming looks and obvious flirting, the only thing crossing my mind while he spoke to me was when I could grab Kate and Harper and leave.
"How'd you come across these two?" Nick questions, directing his gaze towards my two friends.
Harper currently looked bored out of her mind, staring at her empty frozen yogurt cup while Kate occupies herself talking to the boy she was eyeing earlier on, who I made a mental note to question about later on.
"They live in my area. How come I haven't seen your group before?" I ask, interested.
"Oh, I don't live in your town, if I can even call it that. We'll be going to the same school, though I'm not sure I can wait that long to see you again." Nick tells me, and I feel highly uncomfortable, despite the fact that this isn't the first time in the past ten minutes that he's openly flirted with me.
"Well, as much as I hate to cut this short, I've kind of got to get going. I can't come here and leave empty handed." I tell him, getting up from my seat and throwing away my frozen yogurt cup.
When I come back, I see Harper standing up, looking relieved to leave, and Kate saying her goodbyes to the guy she seemed pretty fond of. Nick and his group are all getting up, and Nick slips a napkin into my hand. I look at it for only a second before rolling my eyes, realizing he had given me his number.
"So you don't leave empty handed." He tells me, winking.
"I don't know what was worse, what you just said to me or the wink that followed." I tell him, and he raises an eyebrow in shock.
He clearly didn't get rejected that often. And hopefully, he didn't notice that not many people flirted with me enough for me to get that good at rejecting others.
"I'm hurt, Rose, really. You're not seeing someone, are you?" He asks teasingly, as if I wouldn't possibly answer.
However, before I could even open my mouth, Harper was by my side, speaking for me.
"If you count Shawn as someone, then yes, she is."
Before I can react to her statement or enjoy the pure shocked expression on Nick's face, Harper pulls me out of the frozen yogurt shop, and Kate quickly follows after saying goodbye to her man friend with a wide smile on her face. As we leave, I hear Nick utter one word in surprise.
"Mendes?"
Shawn Mendes. The name sounded familiar, and I noted that I would have to Google him and see just how famous he was.
"Okay, what did you just do?" I ask Harper in shock, and she shrugs as if it was no big deal.
"Um, I told Nick that you were dating Shawn and now he's going to make it his personal goal to get you to break up with him by making out with Nick in front of Shawn?"
"Wait, what?"
"That's what Nick does. If he's got his eye on you, he'll make it his personal mission to make you his for a night. And if you're dating someone? He'll make sure to kiss you in front of them."
