[Gretchen's POV]
An overwhelming sensation filled my veins. My heart pumped faster. Beads of sweat gathered at my hair line. My breathing got faster.
I woke up.
I rubbed my eyes confused about the vividness of my dream. I took in my surroundings and noticed I was laying on a leather couch. The cool material made my hair stand straight. Asher was nowhere in sight.
Since Asher gave me a tour of this luxurious home that i've now been in for a couple of days, I feel comfortable roaming from room to room unaccompanied by anyone else.
I lazily dragged my body to the kitchen in an attempt to find another breathing entity. Ana was sitting at the breakfast bar, her back facing me. I heard her talking on the phone to someone, her tone didn't sound too pleasant.
I felt guilty about eavesdropping on this kind woman but I couldn't resist. "Asher, she's going to hate you."
She?
"Asher you are the happiest I've seen you, why must you sabotage yourself repeatedly! Remember last time!"
Sabotage? Last time?
"I wouldn't blame her if she left you. It wouldn't be the first and it's probably not the last."
Her?
"You are like a son to me, I want you to be happy! Stop being so self conceited!" A few moments passed. "You can't undo what you've done so you might as well be honest...Asher! you can't lie!...I'm so fed up with you...Don't say I didn't warn you..."
Ana hung up on who I assumed was Asher. I backed out of the kitchen slightly so it appeared that I had just walked in.
"Hello?"
"Gretchen!?" Ana turned around, surprise filled her face. "I didn't expect you to be up so soon, how long have you been down here?" She stood up from her seat and smoothed her black pencil skirt.
"Only a few seconds, I noticed Asher was gone so I took it into my own hands to feed myself." I giggled.
Ana's face scrunched up in annoyance at the mention of Asher's name. But she quickly returned to her usual smiling persona and I smiled back. "Well you've come to the right place! What can I make for you?"
"Anything easy." I shrugged and sat down at the breakfast stool next to the one she had previously sat in.
Ana nodded and rushed around the kitchen preparing what I presumed would be a simple breakfast. A toaster was involved and my eyes instantly lit up because I love toasted bread.
Ten minutes later Ana set a plate down in front of me. There was a toasted bagel with cheddar cheese, a fruit salad, and a few slices of bacon.
"How did you know I love cheese on my bagels?" I asked grinning.
"Asher has given me a long list on the foods you love, like, and hate. I guess I memorized it." She winked.
"Well thank you! I appreciate it!" I winked in return and dug into my meal. Ana left the room, leaving me to eat in peace.
Once I was finished inhaling my food, I brought my dirty dishes to the sink. Ana was nowhere in sight and I didn't want to add another burden on top of her, so I turned on the faucet and began scrubbing away.
Ana, upon hearing the sink, rushed in from the adjoining room. "I will finish!"
"No, no I've got this. Please resume your previous task, I need to feel useful around here." I giggle and shooed her off.
Ana stayed put for a few moments before responding. "At least let me dry the dishes and return them to their places." It wasn't a question, it was more of a demand so I moved slightly to my left giving Ana more room to work.
I scrubbed the pans, bowls, and utensils that all went into making me my delicious meal. Ana and I made small girl talk, giggling amongst ourselves.
During this time I really examined her appearance. Ana was toned and very tall. She didn't even need the heels that I always see her wearing on her feet. She towers over me. Her body is the perfect hourglass figure, she has a slim waist. Her rich, brown hair cascades down her back in loose curls. She has hazel eyes that shine when the light hits them in various places. I wonder who Mr.Linton is...
"Alright," Ana washed her hands and dried them off before giving me a small goodbye and returning to her previous task.
I leaned against the counter with my elbows locked. Guilt washed over me and in an attempt to rid myself of it, I went for a stroll inside the house.
After wandering around for what felt like decades, I came face to face with the two front doors that brought me inside. A flashback played in mind.
Zack led me inside, not once loosening his grip on my hand. He took me into a room that was directly adjacent to the parlor of this elegant home. The air smelled richer, if that's even possible.
Before I could ask Zack what was happening, he placed both hands...
I blinked and came back to reality. I reached my hand out to graze the wood with my nails.
My mind switched its focus to the room right off of the parlor that Asher had originally led me to. I turned on my heel and let my feet take me to the room.
