You stared at the dove wall and exhaled. They can't keep you here forever, you were certain. With that in mind, you removed the rigid white blanket off of yourself and locate your slippers. You move for the door to your room and open it.
You see nurses and medical personnel walk by as you make your way to the waiting room. You haven't had a visitor in a long time, but it doesn't stop you from having hope. The staff stopped interfering with your daily routine ever since you did something. You hear stories about it every once in awhile. What? You were desperate to get out of the small, drab, enclosed space they called a room.
The waiting room was much more livelier than you remembered. There were many individuals, humans and monsters alike, who rushed to get things done, whether to do their job or fill out a form. You greeted Sheila, the woman at the front desk who handles check-ins and such. She smiled at you and waved back, returning to speak with a bear monster.
Sitting down at your usual seat, you begin to do what you usually do here. When you can't leave the hospital and see the outside, you learn to observe what's within...although there really isn't much to see. The only thing worth observing were the new addition to society.
It hasn't been long since the barrier to the underground was broken. In your town, there were a lot of pro-monster people so monsters were integrated nicely. That isn't to say there isn't any bad apples in the bunch; however, they knew better than to cause an uproar. The police around here ain't no joke. Maybe that's why you were admitted here. Your guardian or friend or whoever that put you here knew this was a safe place. It's been so long you can't remember.
Your attention went to the occupied seats around you. Your eyes drifted from a gray mouse who was chatting with a female deer then met white. Well, white pinpricks which served as eyes, you guessed. Something pulled at your chest, but you couldn't explain what it was.
Before you knew it, you ambled over to the monster in the blue worn-out hoodie and black basketball shorts and took his hands into your own.
"Hi! We've never met, but can we go for a coffee or something?"
The skeleton became startled because his eye sockets widened and immediately withdrew his hands from you. Someone didn't teach you that touching strangers was not proper manners.
His permanent smile seemed to drop a bit, but it went back as he regarded you. You'd like to think that it was because he saw how good of a person you are.
"heh, don't even know each other's names yet and you already asking me on a date?"
His voice was rich, deep and smooth, the kind you would expect to hear from an actor. You wouldn't mind listening to it all day.
It seems all the days you've spent in this dreaded building has made you very lonely.
You realized you've been staring at him for an awfully long time without giving him your name or responding to his second statement.
"It's [Name]. I'm [Name]. Did I mention my name is [Name]?" Woah, when did you become so nervous? Is he making you like this?
You heard the sounds of bones rattling as he chuckled at your answer. His smile gets bigger if that even is possible. "so, can I just call you triple [Name] for short?"
You pout as you recognized his question as teasing.
"just messing around with ya, [Name]. i'm sans. sans the skeleton." He decided to forego the handshake as you already did that even before you even met him.
"So!" You clapped your hands together softly and smiled at him. "How about that date?"
"sounds great."
The tugging at your chest seemed to get stronger at his words and you didn't know why.
