without you tonight

The hallway leading to your room always had an ominous atmosphere to it at night. There were barely any lights and it was difficult to know where you were going. You finally made it to the door of your room and entered. Clutching the pad of sticky notes to your chest, you stared at the bland, empty surface of the wall you wake up to every morning. The staff wouldn't mind if you decorated a little, right? It's not like you were going to leave anytime soon.

You detached the first note, the one with Sans' name on it (you added a little doodle of him as well), and stuck it in the center of the wall. This will be seen every morning when you wake up, so it might jog your memory. The second note you put up made you smile fondly.

Sans promised to take me to Grillby's, a bar he frequents often, when I get out. I love his choice of words.

You continue to place the notes up on the wall and the contents on the notes made you hopeful.

Sans likes puns and ketchup. He's actually pretty funny. Although, I think he's a little weird because he carries ketchup packets with him and uses them when he wants to have a snack.

Sans has a brother named Papyrus who has a passion for cooking and spaghetti. I told him I would be delighted in meeting him.

I told Sans about my love for flowers of all kind, but my favourites are Bleeding Hearts. It's sad because they don't grow around here.

Sans is a lot smarter than he lets on. I bet he could figure out how to travel back in time in no time at all. Haha, I made myself laugh a little. Oh no, he's looking at me with a weird expression...

You took a look at your now covered wall, the contrasting neon pink to the ivory. Not wanting to forget, you quickly jot down one last thing to put up.

Ask Sans about the mysterious tugging in your chest.

A knock at the door interrupted your activity. "Come in." You said, knowing that the staff usually checked on you nightly.

The door opened and a nurse came in. Her name is Quinn and she is well-known for her kindness and patience. If you had to pick a favourite staff member, it would be her.

"Miss [Name]? What are you doing still up?" She gazed at your new masterpiece of a wall and sighed. "Where did you get the materials for this?"

"Sheila."

Quinn's lips turned upwards in a smile, not shocked at all. "Figures." She crossed her arms and her expression shifted into one of curiosity. "I have heard you made a friend."

"Yeah, his name's Sans!" You beamed, eyes probably sparkling. "He's the reason why I have all these notes, actually." You gesture to the mentioned objects.

Her expression returned to a soft smile. "Well, I wish you both the best of luck on your friendship and have a good night."

"Same to you." You gave her a goodbye wave as she closed the door on her way out.

You looked at the wall of sticky notes one last time before going to bed. But you don't sleep just yet. Your thoughts are preoccupied with Sans and how you're without him right now. Eventually, you doze off as your subconscious reminded you that you'll most likely see him tomorrow.

Your dreams are filled with colourful glowing cartoonish hearts.
