You could feel the sunlight seeping through the blinds as you regain consciousness. A new day, a new start. You slowly opened your eyes and braced for the bright gleam of the sun. The bed was still warm from your overnight slumber on it. Did you really want to leave?

You removed the sandpaper-like blanket of your being and slipped on your slippers. You exited the room, almost running into one of the nurses and walked to the waiting room. On your way, a little kid bumped into you, shaking you out of your thoughts. They fell on the ground, but soon got up, said sorry and ran past you. You're surprised at how good they were at maneuvering without any arms.

You took your seat in the usual place and

looked around you. Ah, the front desk is having some issues with a parent. Hm, there was a woman who's talking to someone over the phone, she looked close to yelling.

Your chest is acting up again.

"hey, uh, [Name]?"

You turned to the right to see a skeleton with a never-ending smile. Weird, you swore you could have seen that smile from somewhere... "Huh, are you a new doctor? Is that how you know my name?"

The skeleton looked at you, in disbelief. "you joking around?" He let out a nervous chuckle. "we had a date." He held your hands, albeit apprehensively. "you told me to visit again?"

The feel of his pale hands was strange, they were nothing like a human. However, you didn't mind it. What you did mind was that it felt like your heart was about to leap out of your chest. "Sorry... I assume we met sometime ago?" You shuffled through your memories to try to pinpoint when exactly you met him. He looked genuinely hurt and you didn't like it one bit.

"it was yesterday, kid."

Oh, that explains that.

You gently entwined your fingers with his, wondering why you're getting so intimate with him and why he's letting you. "You realize I'm being hospitalized?" He nodded and tightened his grip on you. "I have overnight amnesia... for the lack of better name for it."

"..."

He slowly removed himself from your hold and went to the front desk. You saw him speaking with Sheila. After a couple of exchanged words, she gave him a pad of sticky notes and a pen. Returning, he uncapped the pen and wrote something on the first note, handing it you right after.

sans. sans the skeleton, it read.

"my name. so you remember it." He gave you the remaining pad and the pen. "trust me, you need it. just stick them to the walls or something so you don't forget... much." You graciously took the items from him and stared at the front of the pad. A realization and your mouth morphed into a grin. "You're coming back every day then?" There's something about him that makes you relax when he's around.

"every day is kind of pushing it... but my friend's going to be here for a week probably so we'll see." He shrugged, tried to be nonchalant about it. "so, wanna talk?"

You gave him a smile that would be described as sweet and took one of his hand. "Cafeteria?" He let you lead him to the place you guys had your first 'date.' "cafeteria."

The day went by in a blur of sticky notes and puns. He left you with a bright smile on your face.

You wondered if he could feel the same tugging that you felt. Maybe you'll ask him the next time he comes to visit.
