I sat in the darkness of my tent, Evelyn's face awash with silver light of her smoke. It's sunset now and she insisted on being in here. "So, you can talk. You just choose not to?". She nods. "Why?". Evelyn looks away and closes up before I have the chance to take back the question. "Sorry, I-you don't have to answer.". She turns the opposite direction and lays on her cot. Her scared eyes close and the smoke disappears, few seconds later I hear her breathing even out.
I let out a sigh, whatever she's been through I certainly have no right to pry into it. Laying back on my own cot I sit in darkness thinking. I was almost scared to go to sleep with the chance of seeing my family. But, I was looking forward to getting a glimpse of them. Eventually I fell asleep somewhere in the thinking and returned to the day I was taken. The day Liam was ripped from my arms and I was ripped from my parents.

It started with breakfast. I sat at the dinning table and reached for a spoon. Somewhere in that split second of time energy built up inside of me on the verge of breaking. It was a small shock, barely existing but still there. Liam looked up at me from across the table unbelieving. I hesitantly reached for the utensil again, and this time a bright spark appeared clearly. I sat there unmoving as Liam jumped away from the table. Dad looked over to see what the cause was and he took in a breathe. My mom was already at my side."Charlie? What's-what?" My brother shook his head and stared awe struck. I could hear my dad take out his phone. I knew who he was dialing.
"Frank don't call them. Frank you can't!" My mom pleaded. My father, a government worker, was bound by duty to report anything like this. Like me.
"Sara take Liam, go up stairs. They'll be here in minutes." He commanded. My mom only shook her head at him.
"No! How could you do this? How could you let them take her, take our daughter? You know what will happen!" She was crying now angrily, I've never seen her this upset before. She rose from my side, but didn't leave. "Don't you know what you've done?"
"Sara I have no choice. She's different, like the others. She's dangerous. They would take her no matter what." He explained. My mom turned away and pulled Liam towards us. She looked at me and grabbed my hand, and for a moment I saw a hint of hesitation in her eyes. She was scared of me. I felt my heart drop to my stomach and before I knew it I was crying. Mom pulled me into her and I pulled Liam into me. My father began to come towards me as a banging rang out from the door. My mom only held me tighter. Her cries filled my ears as a men in military uniforms infested the house. I saw them take my dad first, he went willingly. But then all I heard was Liam's screams of confusion as he was being torn from my grasp. He reached out and grabbed my arm as one last chance and I felt his nails dig into my skin. Then he was gone.

I awoke in sweat and screams. Tears burned into my cheeks and I felt a storm inside of me. I felt it churn with every thought of my family. I was angry. At the government, at my father, and most of all at myself for knowing he was right. I am dangerous. The look on my mothers face told me so. A face I never thought capable of such an expression for me. I stood up with the monster in my chest. It was growling, wanting to feed on anything, and I had the state of mind to give it exactly what it wants.
I walked out of the tent into the stormy night and crossed the field to the area we had landed in only two days before. When I stopped I was a good distance from the others. Inhaling the sweet electric air I suddenly felt completely full, satisfied even. I raised my arm to the sky with out thinking and released the tidal wave of lightning I'd been keeping caged for so long. It felt good, great even. For the first time since I've carried my powers I felt free, unstoppable, unbreakable. Irreplaceable. I lowered my hand from the sky and drank in the silence.
