The King's Gaze Chapter 5 (Revised), a percy jackson and the olympians fanfic | FanFiction
Order was not a foolish god. He couldn't be flattered like Zeus, and he wasn't swayed by his own emotions like Poseidon, neither could he be bribed like Hades. He was cunning and observant, so it was no surprise that he almost immediately noticed how much I disagreed with his regime. I'm sure he didn't care though; he could just make me obey. The thought sent chills down my spine.
He looked at me and smirked "Percy, from the moment you accepted to becoming my Champion, you had only two options. Either live with me, or die with me." Before I could respond he snapped his fingers and warped the space around us.
When I looked up again I was on the balcony of a massive castle overlooking a large city.
There were three white suns over the horizon raining radiant light over the land as far as the eye could see in every direction. It was almost as if there were no shadows. Buildings with advanced technology were built on floating land masses, parallel to another; the ones on the ground were about as tall as the Empire State Building and all of them were in neat rows. I looked down and focused on the people.
Something seemed off though, and it wasn't the fact that not all of them were human, which, although surprising did make sense. No, it was the fact that all were all wearing the same exact white shirt and pants, with the exact same pleasant smile, in perfect rows and columns. They all walked at the same pace, no pushing or trying to get around like in New York, even when they turned a corner, their body would make a perfect 90* turn and they continued, walking stiffly.
"This is the ultimate form of perfection. There is stability and a perfect balance. In time Percy, your eyes will be opened and you'll come to a realisation that order and peace are one and the same. Order IS peace."
"No. This is slavery. Freedom is peace." My fists clenched, and I gritted my teeth.
"On the contrary Percy, it is but an invitation to chaos. I don't even need to force you... You'll understand soon enough."
I looked down again, watching the people and I wondered for a moment what Chaos' realm would look like. Was Chaos the direct opposite of Order, or was she another beast on her own? There was still too much I didn't know.
"Back to the matter at hand, I need you to get stronger. Chaos's soldiers are powerful and so is the Champion that leads them."
"But the Champion... he's the strongest of them all isn't he?"
He smiled, "Yes, I suppose he is."
"Then it's only natural that I must grow strong enough to defeat him."
And then... I'll end Chaos and you and anyone else in my way.
"Don't worry, you won't be on your own. I've assigned my best soldiers to train you." He seemed amused at this, and I shuddered thinking of what he had planned.
"I don't even have a sword."
"Didn't I just tell you not to worry? Get going! Oh, and remember Percy, Power is Justice!"
I was forcibly warped, arriving in a place that looked all too familiar, an arena. I hadn't seen it from the top of his castle, but it was enormous. But again, just as before, something was off. Where there was supposed to be a dirt floor and the sweet smell of sweat and blood, was polished marble which reeked of antibacterial.
"Oh. Look what showed up at my door step. Are you here to die, or perhaps you're here to die?"
I looked up at a boy sitting in the stands with his legs up, munching on a bagel. I was surprised, he couldn't have been older than 10 or 11 years old. "That doesn't give me much variety in terms of options. Who are you? Why are you in an arena?"
