FORSAKEN

CHAPTER ONE: I'm just me
I’m standing in front of a window in my room, thinking to how the weather here in Anderson Town never changes into any other weather like winter other than always hot and a sunny day. I mean it’s a great feeling to have the sun soak into your skin, but I’ve lived here in Anderson for the past eighteen years now, I’ve never left to go anywhere else but here.
My name is Alice Johns, I’m eighteen years old and I go to Anderson Secondary College which is about a ten minute walk from my house. I’m an only child who is raised by a single caring mother, Anna Johns.
My Dad died when I was five years old from a brutal murder, after then my mother never got re-married, I never knew another dad in my entire life. I guess mum was that in love with him that she didn’t want anyone else apart from raising me well, which she did a good job at it. The police still doesn’t understand to how he died, they said that he lost a lot of blood, but he was then separated apart - limb from limb.
“Alice, are you ready to head to school?” mum yelled out.
I didn’t move, or turn my head around to yell across my room; I kept staring out the window, curious about the world and the people.
“Alice?” she yelled once again.
I blinked. “Yes.” I responded.
I turned around and grabbed my bag off my bed and headed straight out of my room, and then walked down the small corridor that leaded to the lounge room. I turned to my right and headed to the kitchen, there my mum was getting breakfast ready. I put my bag on top of the dinning table, but when I moved to go in front of the bench to watch my mum cook my bag suddenly fell down.
I turned around and looked at it as it lays there looking all stuffed up. I frowned before I looked back to mum.
“Morning.” I said while I sat on the stool in front of the bench.
She took a quick glance at me. “Hey,” she said whilst putting eggs and bacon on the same plate.
I sat there watching her as she continues. Through the years of her taking care of me, her only child, her only daughter - she’s still taking good care of me now even though I can take care of myself.
“You’re hungry right?” she asked.
I lifted a brow whilst inhaling. “Um… just a little.” I said.
I looked at her, she smiled. “Okay, well, eat as much as you want, hun.” She insisted.
I smiled a bit, however it wasn’t much of a serious happy smile; it was more like a fake one just to show her that I’m happy.
Arriving at school is always a very annoying thing, because once I get off the bus I look at the school, inhale and end up exhaling disturbingly. I use to care about my education, but now I don’t know what I want anymore. I’m mostly focusing about mum’s health and her life when I leave the house; I think that’s why she’s taking care of me so much now - because she knows that sooner or later I’ll be leaving.
I carried my bag properly on my right shoulder, it’s not a one shoulder bag, it’s just a normal bag. Sometimes this school is great, but then again it gets a bit annoying because we don’t wear uniforms, just casual clothes.
“Hey, Alice!” a familiar voice shouted out.
I stopped, looked around the place trying to figure out who yelled out my name; when I turned around I finally spotted that person. It’s Jacob Maynard, my best friend in the whole world. I smiled happily as he walks up to me.
