"You've been really happy these past few days," Chase said on our flight to Daytona.
"Of course I am, we're going to Florida. I can actually walk outside with out feeling like I'm gonna die from the heat in under two seconds," I replied and he nodded in agreement. I sat on his lap. "And good things have happened at Daytona."
"Really? What races have you been watching?"
"Oh, don't act like you're not the one who won back-to-back Daytona 500 poles. Remind me again, that was your first two full years in the Cup series, right?"
"Yes. And it was pretty cool."
"Pretty cool? It was frickin' awesome."
**Flashback**
The top 12 had began running their laps, each a few decent one-hundredths better than round one. I began to get nervous, as I didn't know how much speed Chase really had.
"You're nervous," Chase said.
"I'm not nervous. I'm fine," I said.
"I think you're nervous."
"Fine, I'm a little nervous."
Clint Bowyer had just ran his lap, and Chase began to get in his car.
"Good luck. Go fast. I love you," I told him.
"Thank you. Always. I love you too." I kissed him and gave him one last hug, and he climbed in his car. I walked over to where Bubba was watching qualifying.
"Bowyer put down a really good lap," I said. "I don't know if they have that much speed."
Keselowski made his lap and bettered Bowyer's. Then Dale made his lap and bettered Keselowski's. I'm not saying I was doubting the 24 team, but I was doubting the chances at a pole at this point. Then Chase pulled off pit road to begin his lap.
I watched him come to the stripes to get the green, then turned to face the scoring pylon. I heard him coming out of turn four. I glanced back to watch him cross the start/finish, I turned back and saw the 24 at the top.
The track announcer took over, "Chase Elliott will win back-to-back Daytona 500 poles."
**End flashback**
"This weekend is going to be awesomer though," he said. "Is awesomer even a word?"
"No, I don't think so, but it's ok," I replied and kissed him.
*********
"You guys busy?" I asked as I walked up to the 9 garage stall.
"Kinda, but you're fine," Alan answered.
"Why I am I the only exception?"
"Because you actually know what we're talking about."
I agreed and walked into their garage.
"You guys got a good one this week?" I asked.
"We are thinking about calling this car Amelia 2.0," Chase answered.
"Ooh, sounds fast."
"It is," Alan chimed in. "So, we're gonna call it a day. You're free to go."
"Sure you don't need me to do anything?" Chase asked.
"I'm sure. Go."
Chase and I walked out out of the garage and he looked at me, "You want to go for a walk?"
