I tried to keep low as I dashed for the pharmacy down the road. The street was strangely quiet but it was best we stay silent. I turned and made a hand signal at Sam and he ran over to me. We hid behind a small vehicle in case any walkers decided to show up. I peeked over the top only to see the street clear.

"Ok, it's all clear." I whispered.

"Ladies first." Sam joked.

"Funny. Ok, but you keep an eye out and let me know if you see anything." I crept behind a nearby bench and headed for the pharmacy doors. When I got there I heard something. Sam. I turned around and he was waving and making quiet noises, trying to get my attention I was guessing. I shrugged my shoulders and he pointed to the window of the pharmacy. A little girl was standing and staring at me. I tilted my head to one side and she backed away from the window. I tried the door but it was locked.

"Dani, watch out!" I heard Sam shout quietly. I turned around to see a heard of walkers heading towards me. Crap. "Just get back over here." But just as Sam had finished I heard the doors open and there stood the little girl.

"Get in here! Are you crazy?" I turned back to Sam who hadn't been seen by the walkers yet. He nodded at me and I headed inside. "What the hell are you doing out there?" She asked.

"Well we came to get medical supplies."

"Oh well we have a lot of those."

"We?"

"Yes, my group. Come upstairs." She said as she locked to doors.

"Wait, won't they get through those doors?"

"Well they never have done before, so probably not."

"Erm ok then." I followed the little girl through the store to the back and up some stairs. "How can you be sure they won't get in?"

"Well, most of the windows are boarded up and the rest have curtains so they don't get attracted to light. This place was closed when the outbreak occurred and my family and I lived in the flat upstairs.

"Oh ok. Who's in your group then?"

"You'll see." We passed several quiet and dark rooms and then we reached a dimly lit one with a group of people.

"Who the heck is this? You can't just bring strangers in here!" A tall dark haired woman with a blanket wrapped around her said.

"There were flesh-eaters everywhere; I couldn't just leave her out there."

"My friend and I just came for some medical stuff, we thought this place would be abandoned."

"Well it's not!" A scruffy looking man snapped.

"That's Jeremy, my uncle." The little girl said pointing at the man. "And that is my mom." She said pointing at the tall dark haired woman.

"I'm Vicky." The woman spoke.

"Then there's Lucia and Emily, they're my cousins." The girl continued pointing to two girls around my age. "That's my brother Jonno." She pointed to a young boy about her age. "And I'm Aaliyah."

"I'm Danielle, everyone just calls me Dani though. Look, we just need a few things and then I'll go."

"We need these supplies too." Jeremy spoke.

"How old is your daughter?" I asked as I turned to Vicky. "10? 11?"

"I'm 12." Aaliyah replied.

"Well we have kids as well. We have two of them, Caitlin and Faith. Caitlin is 9, and Faith is only 3 years old. Her aunt, Maisie, is looking after her. Maisie lost her sister and she swore on her life that she'd protect Faith and I don't know what she would do if anything happened to that little girl. So we need a few things just in case anything happens. We've already got one injured and that means less people to protect everyone. Please!" I begged. "We've lost too many people already. I won't lose anyone else."

Everyone went silent. Then they all turned to each other and back to me.

"Yes, ok." Vicky said. "Only because of the children."

"Thank you." I smiled. Vicky stood up and headed into another room gesturing her hand to follow.

"Come on then. What do you need?" We headed into another room. The room was bare, with a few cupboards and a large fridge.

"A first aid kit would be a great help. Just to stop any infection."

"Is it from a bite?" Vicky asked seeming slightly worried.

I didn't want to think about this. "No. Actually, it... it is a bullet wound. We've found temporary things to stop it from getting worse but it'll get seriously infected soon."

"When did it happen? How did it happen?" She asked.

"Early hours of this morning. We were searching for supplies and we were attacked."

"Oh my." She replied.

"Yeah. We've had it rough the past couple of weeks." I said, trying not to tear up. "We had a strong base, a home. It was protected. We had 38 people, plenty of food and supplies. But something happened. Now there's only 9 of us. We lost everything."

"Oh my god, that's horrible. The planet has gone to shit. People hated each other enough before the flesh-eaters. Now everyone is fighting to survive. But honestly, I'm more afraid of other people than I am those monsters." Vicky said.

"Yeah, I know what you mean. Most of my group died to those who were alive, not the dead." I said. "Anyway, let's not talk about this." I said trying not to tear up.

"Yeah, not a great thing to talk about." She said as she searched the cupboards. "Here." She handed me a first aid box. "Do you have somewhere safe now? For those kids?" Vicky asked as she handed the box to me.

"I hope so. Look, thank you for this. You don't realise how much this will help." I smiled.

She smiled back. "I guess we do need to start looking out for each other. Oh wait." She walked across the room and searched through a chest of draws. "Oh ah!" She exclaimed, she turned and handed me 2 tubs of painkillers. "I really hope this helps." I smiled and we headed back to the other room.

"Is that everything?" Jeremy asked as Vicky and I entered the room.

"Yes, thank you so much." I replied.

"We have one problem." I heard a quiet voice say, Lucia. "When you got here, those things saw you. They've surrounded the way out."

"What? Will they get in?" Aaliyah panicked.

"No they won't, but it looks like none of us are leaving." Vicky replied.

"Oh, great!" I said sarcastically. Then I thought, "Wait, my friend. He's outside. He hasn't been spotted by them yet, maybe he can help.

"Perhaps he can." Jeremy spoke.
