Occasionally Harry would glance over at the clock on the wall and groan internally. Time seemed to stand still within the confinements of the too old, too dusty library. It's not that the tutoring lesson was painfully awful... Harry was just having a hard time adjusting to a somewhat pleasant Draco. The latter had actually refrained from making any smart ass comments for a whole five minutes! Typically, that wasn't a massive feat, but Harry would take all the pleasantries he could get from the moody Slytherin. They had almost made their way through the pile of work Harry had brought with him. Most of the time was spent with Draco completing all the work while Harry nodded his head and intermitently looked at the clock. He wasn't purposfully trying to zone out, his brain was just taken up by an enormous cloud of fog. Things were complicated these days.
A hand suddenly flashed in front of his eyes, waving begrugingly back and forth.
"Hello, Earth to Potter! Staring into space won't fill that air-head of yours," said Draco with a scowl, like he was personally offended Harry wasn't paying attention.Harry's eyes snapped back to the books laid out in front of him, muttering an apology. He looked at the contents filling the page, but the words just kept blurring together. Everything was too much at once. The clock on the wall ticking away, Draco's rambling, pen scratching on paper... And his general presence. The whole situation was off putting in a way Harry couldn't quite grasp. It was different and that scared him and–
–In his peripheral vision, Harry noticed Draco leaning slightly back in his chair and folding his arms. He gave a small huff, clearly as exasperated as Harry felt.
Suddenly, a sharp pang of guilt seeped into Harry's chest. He hadn't meant to be such a lousy student. Here Draco was, sarcastic as ever, moody, a little on the awkward side, and not too pleased with their current arrangement either... But he was trying. Draco had showed up to their lesson, and despite everything, was actually a reasonable teacher.
"Look," Harry started. He paused and took in a deep breath. "I'm sorry that I'm making this more difficult than it needs to be. I'll try harder to listen."
Draco's eyes narrowed into slits, probably taken aback by Harry's honesty and lack of snark.
"Um, okay. I– well, thank you. I appreciate it," said Draco simply.
"Let's just continue. It's getting late and there's not a lot of stuff left to do."
Draco regarded Harry for a moment.
"You know what? Let's take a break. I know I'm teaching quality content here but I think you'll get more out of it if we go for a walk. Stretch those little legs of yours." He waited a few seconds before adding, "And you look troubled, Harry."
Harry scoffed half heartedly. "You sound like you actually care."
"Is that a bad thing?" Draco said, eyebrow raised in challenge. He seemed to be testing the waters.
...
"Alright then. Let's go for a walk."
