The line between hate and love

Chapter 3

I was glad Mr Scott wasn't one of those teachers that made the new kid stand in front of the class and introduce themselves. Thankfully he understood that on the first day of school the new kid didn't really want to be singled out.

I honestly liked my science class. I was pretty smart, which is why I take all AP classes, but my enjoyment of that class was severely brought down by, you guessed it Zach. I mean why did we both have to be incredibly smart, I mean why couldn't I have been the one who was a genius, and he could have just followed his stereotype and been a dumb jock. But no........ he had to be a brilliant genius who is great at sports, senior class president, and on the Debate team. I mean seriously the Debate team, who even does those anymore.

He was sitting at the back of the classroom when Elliot and I walked in to the room, he briefly looked up at us with a shocked expression on his face for a few seconds before he went back to his bored expression.

" So are you new here? " one of the fake pretentious bitches asked

" Really? " I said " you're gonna ask that after I just said he was a new student in front of the entire class. Please tell me you're not that incompetent, you know you're in an AP class right which means you're supposed to be smart, or did all that tanning you did last weekend fry all your brain cells " I said putting my hand over my heart in mock concern.

" This tan is natural thank you very much " fake pretentious bitch number one said " My family and I went to the beach this weekend, and that how I got this tan "

" I think we all know that's a bunch of bullcrap, because we all know that you're a natural redhead and you've got pale skin that burns really easy remember "

She flushed bright red ( like her real hair ) and was probably about to say something nasty, but Mr Scott cut her off.

" Liz and Bridget ( so that's her name ) you both have detention for disrupting class " he said and that was when I noticed that the whole class was watching our little conversation, and weren't paying attention to what Mr Scott was saying.

" Oh sorry, I didn't know I was that interesting " I said " But I'm sure that you guys gotta a real kick out of watching this clown over here " I said pointing at Bridget. The entire class started laughing even Mr Scott, I even saw Zach crack a little smile.

" Okay okay you guys need to quiet down and pay attention " Mr Scott said turning back to the board and continued teaching. Bridget turned back her fake friend with a flip of her fake blonde hair

" That was mean, but really funny " Elliot said

" Thank you, it's one of my many charms "

" Is being beautiful one of them "

" Um.... what? " I said intelligently, please note the sarcasm

" I said you were beautiful "

" Uh.... thank you? " it came out sounding like a question

" Your welcome, I believe in telling beautiful women that they're are beautiful "

After that sweet little moment, we spent the rest of the class alternating between listening to Mr Scott teach or just talking to each other about random stuff. As soon as the bell rang I grabbed Elliot's hand, and dragged him out the door, when I did that I saw a look in Zach's that I couldn't quite place, but it was gone as soon as it came so I shrugged it off.

" We've got English next with Mrs Laurel, I'd be careful not to get on her bad side she's an absolute bitch " I said

" Don't worry I'll just charm her with my good looks and sexy British accent "

" Yeah kinda like one direction "

He shrugged " Well they're rich, and have millions of girls all around the world gaining for them, so I'll take it "

" Touché "

" Hey Elliot " someone said I looked up to see Zach, then he looked at me and sneered " Wow is this really who you picked to hang out with on the first day of school "

" Better than hanging around with assholes like you " I replied

" He's my cousin so I'm pretty sure he would hang out with the likes of me quite often actually "

" Not all cousins like each other and I'm pretty sure Elliot is one of them "

" Actually Zach and I are really close " Elliot said

" Really how is that possible, you're so sweet and he's so ughhh " I said shuddering

" I ask myself that same question every day " he said which made Zach scowl which made both of us start laughing until we heard the bell.

" Great you made me late, again " I said to Elliot walking to English class

We got there late again, but Mrs Laurel gave all of us detention even Zach which I had mixed feelings about, on one hand I was glad he was in trouble, but on the other hand I was going to be stuck with him in a room for 30 minutes, at least Elliot was going to be there.

Elliot and I spent the entire class period talking about random stuff, and also got to know each other a little better. Then I showed him to his next two classes which we didn't have together before it was time for lunch. I showed Elliot where the cafeteria was and helped him get some food after which he vowed to bring his food from home from now on. Then I led him to the table with my friends, as we were walking there Zach called out for him to come sit with him and his friends, but he declined and said he wanted to sit with me.

" Hey guys " I said to Luke and Natalia

" Hey girl, we have a new kid and I hear he is gorgeous and has a sexy British " Natalia said

" Yeah he's right here " I said pointing at Elliot " His name is Elliot Knight, and yes he is related to Zach, he's Zach's cousin "

" Well I can certainly see the resemblance " she said

" Except Elliot is a hell of a lot nicer " I said

Then I introduced him to most of my friends, and lunch went by normally. We had two more classes after lunch, Elliot asked me what happened between Zach and I, since Zach never told him that we stopped being friends so I explained what happened. He said that he would talk to Zach because it didn't sound like Zach, I told him not to bother because High School changes people.

The last bell rang and Elliot and I walked out the door together, and he said goodbye and got into a car with Zach while I went with my friends.

Once I got home I went to my room dumped my stuff and lay down on my bed doing my homework for two hours until dinner. After dinner I finished the rest of my homework, took a shower and stayed up until six watching tv, which was fine because tomorrow was Saturday.
