Awkward

My eyes opened groggily. I yawned and looked out my window. I could only just see sunlight brimming over the horizon. Ugh. Why do I wake up so freaking early? Its Saturday today, so I don't even work today... Speaking of which, why did mom decide to make my first day of school a Friday? Whatever.

I tossed the covers off my legs and made my bed. I got dressed and noticed a light on in the window directly across the street from mine. Who the hell wakes up at this time on a Saturday? Besides me, I guess. But I'm weird anyways.

I kinda ended up spacing out and staring out my window for a bit. I snapped out of it when I saw someone move in the room. Jeez, I must seem creepy as hell. Wait... I saw a familiar mop of silver hair on the guy in the room. Oh yeah, I forgot, that's Victor's house. That must be his room.

I looked away to clean my glasses and when I looked back up, I saw Victor waving madly at me from his window. I rolled my eyes and waved back. I guess if anyone would have my weird-ass sleep schedule, it would be him. Anyhow, what am I gonna do today? Mom doesn't really care where I go on weekends...

Maybe I'll go for a morning walk. No matter how you you slice it, the more active I am, the better.

I quietly slipped out of my room and went downstairs. Hopefully I didn't wake anyone. I left a note for my mom that I was going for a walk, and that if she needed me, I had my phone. Then I put on my shoes and stepped into the crisp November morning. I walked through my yard to the sidewalk when I heard a door shut across the street.

I looked to where to came from and saw Victor dressed in athletic clothes with a small duffel bag over his shoulder. He saw me and grinned. He ran across the street over to me and greeted me.

"Hello, Yuri. What are you doing out this early?" I shrugged.

"I woke up really early and didn't know what to do, so I decided to go for a morning walk. What about you?"

"I also woke up early. I decided to go practice my skating." My eyes widened. I got excited.

"There's a rink in this town? And it's open this early?" Victor smiled, I guess he could see my excitement.

"Yep. Its just down the road there. Technically it isn't open, but I work there as a clerk. I have a key, and they let me skate when it's closed." Oh, I wish I could go skate! But then again, nothing is open this early.
"Why? Do you skate, Yuri?" I nodded enthusiastically. He smiled wider. "Would you like to come skate with me, Yuri?" My mouth dropped open at his generosity.

      "Is that really okay?"

"Of course! In fact, I'd be glad if you did!" I grew a smile that grew from ear to ear.

"Thank you so much! I'll just go change quickly." He laughed.

"No need to rush!" He called after me, but I was already running to my house. I quickly dug my skates out of my closet full of boxes and shoved them into a duffel. I changed into more appropriate clothes and dashed out the door with my bag slung over my shoulder. I ran to meet Victor and he laughed at my lack of air.

"I told you there was no need to rush." I panted for a second and stood up straight.

"Shut up." I said jokingly. He laughed again and rolled his eyes.

"Well, now you're turning into Yurio." That made me laugh, and then we started down the road. We reached the rink in less than five minutes. I guess it really was close.

Victor dug the key from his pocket and opened the door. He smiled and gestured for me to come inside. I went in first and he came in close behind me. He locked the door behind him and strode into the dark entrance to the rink. I stood in place for a minute.

I hate when people leave me alone in places I don't belong. What did he even go to do?

Suddenly, I heard a low buzz and the lights flicked on above me. Oh. He went to turn on the lights. Victor turned around the corner and smiled gestured for me to follow him. I jogged to catch up to him. I followed him into a locker room. Victor plopped his bag onto the bench and dug out his skates. I followed suit and did the same. We chatted idly while we laced our skates and headed to the rink. He walked ahead of me and when we walked up to the rink doors, he gestured exaggeratedly and opened the door for me. I giggled a bit.

    "Thanks"

"My pleasure, good sir." He winked and I rolled my eyes. We stepped into the rink and my jaw dropped. It was huge! Victor walked forward and leaned on the window on the side. He had a proud smile on his face.

"Meet my pride and joy. For such a small town, it's an incredible rink. Then again, nothing less from Yurio's family. They own this place. Built it when he was ten." I walked up close and looked over the huge expanse of ice. It really was impressive.

"All we had in my old town was a tiny little rink for the hockey players. I was probably the only figure skater in the whole place." We both stepped onto the ice and started absentmindedly skating around while we talked. Victor called to me from across the ice.

"My family is mostly accountants, lawyers, doctors, you know. Intellectual jobs. I want to be a clothing designer, personally. What about you?" I called back.

"My whole family runs a hot spring and inn. That's actually where we live, out of the inn. I work every other day, and I'm off today. My sister and I will run the place when my parents retire." Victor smiled wide.

"I didn't know that your family ran a hot spring! I think it'll be quite popular, I think it's the only one in town. I'll have to drop by sometimes. I'll drag Yurio along too." Both of us laughed loudly and the sound echoed over the ice. I continued to skate freely. After a bit, I noticed that Victor had stopped and was just watching me skate. I flushed, a bit embarrassed, and trailed to a stop. He skated close toward me and ran his eyes up and down my body. Why is he looking at me like that?

"I can tell you've never skated in a big rink before. You don't stretch your legs out as far as they can go, and your form is a bit hunched, like you don't have enough room." Oh. He was looking at my stance. Jesus, what were you thinking, Yuri?

Before he could continue, I heard a familiar song playing quietly. My phone was ringing from where I left it on the ledge. That's weird, nobody ever calls me. I quickly skated over to the side. I heard the ringtone get louder as I got close. We were born to make history.. Born to make histo- The tone cut off as I picked up the phone. Mom. Why's she calling me?

I hit reply and before I could even say hello, my mother was loudly talking into my ear.

"Yuri! Your sister is sick and I think it is going to be really busy today. Can you come back home, please?" I sighed. The one day I'm actually doing something I want to be doing.

"Sure, Mom. I'll come home now."

"Thank you Yuri! I love you!" And with that, she hung up. I turned to Victor.

"My sister's sick, so I need to come home and take over her shift today. Sorry." He sighed and looked disappointed, then smiled.

"That's fine. I'll walk home with you." I was surprised.

"N-no, you don't have to stop because of me. I'm fine.."

"Nonsense! Of course I'll cone with you!" He said, striding towards the exit to the ice. I just shook my head.

"Thanks, I guess.." He just smiled and waited for me to catch up.

He really is such a sweet guy...I shook my head. Yuri! Stop! Just because he wants to be your friend doesn't mean anything else! Stop having gay thoughts! I hurried off the ice to catch up with him.
