Stolen Souls

Part 1- Chapter 5

As I walked into school the next day, Fernando ran up to me.

"Is it true?...Are you and her?..." He starts.

"No we are just friends." I respond. But I stop myself. Why did I say that? I mean I kissed her, doesn't that mean we are in a relationship or something. The other part of me screamed out a no internally. My stomach grew and grew with butterflies as the two parts began to fight again.

"Um, Carter are you okay?" Fernando asks. I immediately come back to my senses.

"Yeah, why?" I ask.

"Your face was like this." He says as he mimics the emoji that has one eye closed and the tongue sticking out.

"Wow, I didn't know my face could do that." I say jokingly as I walk into Math.

"Okay guys, today we will be learning about Algebraic Equations. I will be writing the equations on the board and you will have to solve for X." Mr. Carpenter says. He writes "X + 6 = 15"
I'm on my phone, texting Fernando who is in Health.

Fernando: So...
Me: What?
Fernando: I heard that you and Sonia where kissing at your house.
Me: How did you know that?!
Fernando: So it did happen! 😏
Me: 😑

"Mr. Jenkins!" Mr. Carpenter shouted. He took my phone and scrolled down to see the messages. Fortunately before he could read the part about Sonia, the battery died. He glared at me.

"If take your phone out again, it will be in my possession until the end of the year." He says. I hear the other kids making noises and laughing.

"Silence! The same will go to you if you don't be quiet!" He yelled. They immediately shut up.

"So, Mr. Jenkins what is X?" He asks. I look at the board and see the problem that he wrote before, X + 6 = 15. I immediately subtract 6 from both sides and get 9.

"Nine." I answer. He glares at me and manages to say correct. I smirk at him while I finish the homework.

"If you finish EVERYTHING, you may leave." Mr. Carpenter says.

I immediately hurry out the door before he can stop me. Yes, I have Chorus next. I rush into the Chorus room and sit next to Sonia. Her dark curls shine in the sunlight.

"Hey." I say.

"Hi Carter, I asked Ms. Sunshine if we could practice in one of the practice rooms and she gave me the key." Sonia explains.

"Um okay." I say. Man she must really like me! I think. She grabs my arm and drags me into the practice room.

"I haven't exactly been honest with you Carter..." She says as she locks the door.

"What is it?" I say.

"I...It would easier if I just showed you." She says. She rolls her sleeve up revealing a ruby red ring on her ring finger. I'm shocked, I don't know what to say. I grit my teeth in anger.

"Why didn't you tell me before." I state.

"I'm so sorry Carter, I—" She stutters.

"No, how could you want to affect all those innocent people? You wanted to sing in front everybody!" I shout.

"Carter, you don't understand. I only have three more transformations then—"

"Then what? All the souls of those innocent people become your's?!" I scream.

"Ugh! Those people aren't innocent, Carter! Nobody is innocent!"

"I don't understand how you think this is a gift! This thing, it's a curse!" I yell.

"It's a gift that will lead me to not be hungry anymore! Hungry for souls! If I become immortal, I'll never have to steal a soul again."

"But you will be stealing souls to get there!" I shout. She sighs.

"Okay Carter, you don't have to sing but I will be and there is nothing you can do to stop me." She says as she unlocks the door then leaves, leaving me in the room, alone and boiling with anger.

Hey guys! Sorry for not updating in a while and for the chapter being short. Wanted to end it with a cliffhanger :). Will update by next week, sorry for me being busy. (Lol is it just me or do I say sorry a lot XD)
