My family, before Mom died, went to church. We would sit right underneath the cross. My favorite phrase that was written on it was:

† You can do anything when you believe in Jesus Christ and when you believe great things will come of you.†

Except we don't go to church anymore. Dad never believed in Jesus and Mom always had to force him to go. Uh oh, Dad! What is he going to say, what is he going to do! I got in a car accident after a party and now I'm in the hospital. Dad is going to freak! Lilliana better be at Grandma's like she said she would! I must have looked worried because Ryan asked, " Are you alright?"

"Yeah. I just was worried about what my Dad is going to say and do."

"Oh that old bag of words," he says."He can't hurt you! He's all say, no action."

"Thanks Ryan. I love you." I say just as I drift off to sleep.

Ryan wakes me up,"Hey sleepyhead! The doctors say you can leave you have a sling on your arm and your leg healed quickly."

"Did father come at all?"

"Yes he told the nurse to tell you before you left that you need to pick up your stuff and leave his house. And to take Lilliana to Grandma and Grandpa's house. She will be living there."

"What?!" I exclaim, " He told the nurse to tell me that? That scaredy cat!"

"Yeah, I'll take you home and pick you and Lilliana up. Y'all can put your stuff in the back of the truck after all we do live in Texas and it don't rain much here so!"

"OK let's get out of here!"

I smile at Lilliana as I walk in with Ryan. She gapes at us.

"Come on Lilliana. Grab your stuff you're going to Grandma and Grandpa's house." I say.

"Why?" Lilliana whines.

"Because Dad said. I'm sorry but Dad said. It's all my fault. I got into a car accident. I'm sorry."

"Oh Erica! Please don't blame it on yourself! It's actually mine," Lilliana starts to say before I say,

"What!? How? How could it be your fault? I'm the one who got him angry and upset!"

"No I told him you didn't mean to get into an accident, I told him you were driving on the broken road, and I told him to go to the hospital and see you! Now who made him angry and upset Erica? Who?!"

I stand there shocked and crying, "I.... I didn't know! I.... I'm sorry!" I tell Lilliana, "I'm sorry." Now she was crying.

"It's okay Erica. Let's go pack."

**************************

It took two and a half hours to pack both of our belongings. We left just five minutes before Father would have been home. "1020 East Mellody street." Ryan gives me a confused look. "That's where Grandma and Grandpa live. In the country 'bout two or four miles out."

"Okay I'll take Lilliana out there, then we'll go to my house."

"Okay.... thanks, Ryan."

"You're going to live with Ryan?" Lilliana exclaimed in a sad way.

"Yeah. If I go to live with Grandma and Grandpa, Father will find me and hurt me. He won't hurt you, trust me," I say sadly. Right before she gets out I say,

"I'll miss you, Lilliana." She gives me a hug and walks inside without a word.
