Patrick woke up to the sounds of laughter from downstairs. He reached across the bed to find it cold and empty. He decided to get up so he threw on some sweatpants and an old racing shirt.
He couldn't help but smile when he heard his wife and their two girls, Elliot and Fynn, singing while making breakfast. He loved all his kids, Tallula, Darby, Sullivan, Stella, Elliot, and Fynn, and would do anything for them, but he just couldn't get enough of the days it was just him, Ellen, and their two girls.
Patrick just stood in the doorway of the kitchen watching the three dance around the room with big smiles on their faces. Ellen caught a glimpse of him and winked. Patrick started thinking back to all the small moments like these that he loved about her, and how they've only gotten better since their additions to their big family.
Ellen finally moved over to her husband while still singing and brought him further into the room. He just watched her and couldn't help but to keep smiling while thinking, 'God I love this women so much. I know she's not perfect, but she tries so hard for me. And I thank God that she isn't, cause how boring would that be.' He leaned in and kissed her and squeezed her hand, then started dancing around with his daughters.
They all ate breakfast together while discussing their plans for the day. The family decided they'd spend the day at the park, and even decided to pack a picnic. They packed up all they thought they'd need for the day and headed out.
Once at the park they decided to take a quick walk around the path before they had their lunch.
"Don't go too far ahead," Patrick warned his daughters. He was so happy with his life and all that God had given him. Ellen looked at him and smiled, "what are you thinking about?"
"Remember last year on my birthday? You lost track of time and burnt the cake." He laughed a little, "every smoke detector in the house was going off, you were just about to cry until..."
"You took me in your arms," Ellen finished for him.
Patrick nodded, "and I tried not to let you see me laugh but it didn't work." Ellen thought back to the memory, but was pulled from her thoughts when Patrick said, "Yeah I live for, little moments like that." He kissed her sweetly then grabbed her hand as they continued walking the path with their daughters.
The four spent the rest of the day at the park and had a great time. They stopped by one of the girls' favorite restaurants for dinner and when it started getting late they decided to head back home.
"Paddy look," she motioned to the back seat of the car as he pulled into the driveway. After he put the car in park he looked back to see both Elliot and Fynn passed out in their car-seats and laughed. "They had a lot of fun today."
They carried the girls into the house and laid them in their beds, deciding to just let them sleep. After they got everything else in the house they decided to watch a movie on the couch.
Ellen and Patrick quickly changed into their pajamas and then decided to watch The Wedding Singer. Halfway through the movie Patrick looks over at Ellen and finds that she's fallen asleep on his shoulder. His arm starts to fall asleep and he wanted to move it but she looked so peaceful and like an angle that he didn't want to wake her up. He decided to leave her until the movie was over.
"El, hey El." He gently shook her, "come on honey lets go to bed." He saw her eyes start to flutter open.
"Hi," she smiled sleepily at him.
He smiled back, "come on love lets get you to bed. I'll go check on the girls and then be back to cuddle with you." He helped her stand up and gave her a quick kiss on the forehead as she headed to their room and he went to check on their daughters and lock the doors.
When Patrick got his room he saw Ellen was already back to sleep, so he carefully climbed in beside her. She felt the bed sink as he climbed in and felt his arms wrap around her. She snuggled into his embrace and said "I love you Paddy." He kissed the back of her head, "I love you too El." He then heard her small snores and thought again, 'yeah I live for, little moments like this,' and soon fell asleep.
