CHAPTER ONE

The drive was quiet, Faye was staring out the window as Toby drove through the small city, they were on their way to meet his family for the first time. Faye was nervous but not as nervous as she should be, her relationship with Toby was a strange one she did love him that’s why she was marrying him after all but something was missing. A spark.

Toby didn’t notice it he just liked having a gorgeous girl on his arm when he was at meals or functions, Faye noticed she hadn’t felt the spark since university when she was dating her roommate Ashley, that was the only time she felt whole it was perfect until her fear crept in.

Ashley was always comfortable with who she was, she didn’t really care about what people thought of her but Faye did, her family were really conservative and often worried about their image in the public and them having a lesbian for a daughter wouldn’t look good to their friends.

So she broke it off with Ashley and went back home with a broken heart she thought if she dated a guy she would forget about her but four years on and she hadn’t then she met Toby and well things went from there.

They soon arrived outside a decent sized house there were kids playing football on the front garden they got out as the kids ran over and jumped all over Toby, Faye laughed as she watched them, then grabbed her bags and followed him inside.

“Mum, dad?” Toby shouted as they put their bags down in the hallway the house was big inside and had lots of framed photos on the walls.

A tall woman walked out of the kitchen with a huge smile on her face as she hugged Toby then Faye “wow she is gorgeous your one lucky man Toby” she said they both laughed as a shorter man walked out with an apron around his waist.

“Hey dad” Toby said as he met him for a ‘man hug’

“How is my boy?” He asked “oh is this the woman who has stolen your heart then?”

“Yes dad this is Faye, Faye these are my parents Frank and Christina” they all hugged as Christina turned.

“Ash, Jade come and meet your brother’s fiancée!” Christina shouted “Jade is married her kids are playing out in the front I’m sure they introduced themselves” she chuckled as Faye nodded.

A tall woman walked down the stairs she looked like a younger version of Christina she too had a smile on her face as she hugged Toby and kissed his cheeks she then turned to Faye.

“You must be Faye, heard a lot about you” Jade began “not as much as Ash has then again those two are like twins you can’t separate them when they are together” Faye smiled and shook Jade’s hand.

Just then the back door opened and closed as another woman walked in “you do realise I am trying to fix dad’s car and I can’t do that” the woman paused when she saw Faye her eyes widened as did Faye’s the family watched them confused.

“Ashley?” Faye began she saw Ashley tense as she said her name.

“You two know each other?” Toby asked.

“We went to university together” Faye replied before Ashley could, she saw Ashley roll her eyes and stifle a laugh “I thought you got a degree in philosophy?” Faye asked her

“I did but I needed the money so I’m a handy woman of sorts” Faye nodded Ashley turned her attention to her brother and hugged him.

“Haven’t grown much have you” Toby grinned Ashley laughed and hit him.

Christina turned to Faye “do you know the girl who broke Ash’s heart in university?” She asked Faye gulped Ashley hadn’t heard the question and was busy talking to her brother “I’m sorry if that came out wrong it’s just I worry about her, it’s nice seeing Jade and Toby now so happy I just wish the same for Ash too” Christina sighed.

“No I didn’t know she was dating anyone in University” Faye replied “but I’m sure the right girl will come along and sweep her off her feet in no time”

“I hope so” Christina said with a sad sigh “anyway we are having a nice roast dinner so go and get ready, Ash hurry up with your dad’s car” Christina said Ashley gave her a mocking glare but went back into the garden to finish off.

After she was showered and changed Faye went to see Ashley who was still working on the car “so you’re a handy woman then?” Faye asked Ashley moved from the car and looked at her.

“It pays and I’m local” Ashley said with a shrug.

“You never told me you had a brother and a sister” Faye whispered Ashley looked at her frowning.

“Why would I?” She asked “look don’t try and be my friend alright lets just get through this visit and then we won’t have to see each other again” Ashley said as she turned the ignition on in the car to see if it was working which it did.

“Look you don’t need to worry about your sordid past I won’t be telling him” Ashley told her “so you can leave me alone” with that she brushed past her.

It was nerve wracking leaving home for the first time and for Faye it was, her parents had dropped her off and helped bring her stuff to her new room, when they entered the room they noticed Faye’s roommate was already here and her suit cases were on the bed nearest the wall, the door to their bathroom opened and a young woman walked out putting her hair in a ponytail.

“Oh hello” the girl looked at them in surprise she then looked at the bed she had taken then back at them “if you want that bed just move my stuff to the other one if you want” she said with a grin.

Faye couldn’t really move or breath all she could do was stare at the girl she was gorgeous she had a natural beauty she looked like she didn’t need to wear much make up but still look hot.

“I’m Ashley by the way” Ashley introduced herself and held out her hand, Faye took it and felt a mini shock run through her body she tried to act normal despite being confused by it all.

“I’m Faye” she finally said Ashley gave her a shy smile and nodded.

“Well Faye it’s a pleasure to meet you” Faye swore her heart skipped a beat.

Faye shook herself from her thoughts as she followed Ashley back inside the house.
