"Oh good, you two are back

"Oh good, you two are back. I didn't think you'd be back so soon. What's that smell?" Justin's mom stopped just shy of the two as they entered the front door. Both of them carrying a few bags full of the products his mom had insisted on needing.

Blink tried hard to contain the smile that was blooming on her lips, instead training her eyes on her shoes. In comparison, Justin's jaw was set quite firmly as he brought the plastic bags into the kitchen. "Someone was smoking outside of the grocery store"

"Were you two standing outside with them or what?" She ushered him to bring the bags to the counter before she began unloading the food items.

"Uh yeah...I noticed someone from my old school and we were outside talking to them while they smoked" he lied somewhat easily.

His mother shrugged, her mind already moving onto the next thing as she searched through the bags. "Oh, Justin you didn't get cheese like I asked. Remember? Mozzarella like we discussed" she sighed.

Stalking to the fridge, Justin pulled out a large rectangle that largely resembled a block of fresh mozzarella cheese. "It was the first thing you took out of the bags and put into the fridge, Ma. Do you remember that?"

Waving him off, she put down the bag of carrots in her hand and strode over to the counter adjacent from Blink's sitting form. Leaning her elbows on the granite counter top to support her weight, his mother gazed over at Blink in pure awe.

"I was thinking we could go to Shepard mall or maybe The Grove, ya'know do some shopping. I love my boy to death," her wavering gaze landed on Justin, who still stood by the fridge before they swiveled back to Blink's relaxed body.

The kindness of one simple smoke. She had smoked only one cigarette and yet she felt like all the weight she'd been carrying upon her shoulders was gone. Melting not only the tension in her shoulders, but the anger and resistance in her eyes.

"But, I would really like to take a teenage girl to do some shopping. What do you think? We could stop by Dolce & Gabbana and maybe Chanel, are you interested in Givenchy if not the others?"

"Oh no..." Blink shook her head at some of the brands she hadn't even particularly heard of. Even if she had, she couldn't tell them all apart. Those expensive brands were so far above her, so far above her worth, that she was nearly hyperventilating when the middle aged woman gaped at her for an answer.

"Thats very sweet, but I don't really have the money for those types of stores." She chuckled, panic still evident on her face as the woman made her way around the island to get closer.

"Oh that's no problem, I'd be more than happy to buy you whatever you'd like. My gift for being the first, and hopefully last, girl Justin's brought home for me to meet. That tells me something right? The next step for you two would be marriage and then I get some of the world's best grandchildren!"
