Alice smiled sadly at her cell phone screen as she watched old vlogs of Davids with Heath in them. She did this in her free time a lot. She Always thought back to the day she told him and he wanted different things than her. It was stupid, really. They could have worked it out, it would have been easier but thats just not how they worked.

Heath and Alice had been dating for a year and a half before breaking it off because of the disagreement. She always regretted that ruining the relationship. She wouldnt admit it but she blamed it on herself. She wasnt being smart and she was the one who had gotten drunk and convinced him to get drunk too.

She put down her phone, realizing that she was over thinking things. She looked to her left at the table next to her seat on the balcony of her apartment. On the little table sat a pack of cigarettes. She was trying to quite, for him. For everyone. She felt like she was hurting them by damaging herself. She wanted to be around longer, she needed to be. She sighed and took one out of the pack and put it between her lips. She didn't light it yet. She stared down at the lighter on the table for a while. Her mind started to wonder.

Alice found herself thinking about him again. Heath, the one that got away.

She had never stopped loving him, and she didnt think she wanted to let go. She hated that because she couldnt concentrate on what would be best for the future. She had to be responsible now.

It had been a while since she had seen him. Almost six years. He would be 30 now and she was 28. She still silently wished him a happy birthday every year.

Alice was cought up in her thoughts and didnt hear the home phone ringing in the background of the apartment. The ringing stopped and a small voice came closer to her.

"Mom," the small boy in the doorway called, trying to snap his mother from her thoughts.

"Mom!" He exclaimed. This time he got her attention.

"Yes, Aaron?" She asked as she set down the unlit cigarette on the table.

"Theres someone on the phone. He said his name was Heath." Alice's tall six hear old said as he held out the phone for her to take. Her heart sped up, she was very scared now. What if he called to take Aaron away from her? What if sphe just wanted to fight. She kept thinking of all the bad things. She got mad too. He hadnt called in six years, hadnt even tried to make contact with them, didnt even care to text every once in a while. He had missed out on Aarons early years and last time she checked he didnt want anything to do with her or Aaron. Why was he calling now?

"Oh." Was all she could think to say as she took the phone from her son. He smiled at her and walked away to go play again.

Alice slowley raised the phone to her ear.

"Hello?" She asked hesitantly. There was a long pouse, as if he regreted calling and would hang up.

"Hi, Alice."  He answered and she felt like she was back to six years ago, wrapped in his arms and as happy as ever. She smiled at the sound of his voice and how it still hadn't changed in all these years.

"Did you say hi to him?" She asked into the phone.

"Yeah. Whats his name?" Heath asked back, he sounded like he was chocked up, like he was about to cry.

"Aaron." She answered.

"Beautiful." Heath whispered into the phone.

The end.
