"so you really changed it back from daddy to heath?" Alice asked as she climbed into the red truck. Heath blushed.
"Yeah..."
"Why?"
"Cuz it just sounds weird when it comes from you. You just seem so innocent and small and cute and it sounds very sexual."
"I meant it to be sexual, daddy." She wiggled her eyebrows at him as he pulled away from the biulding.
He chuckled. He changed the subject before things got weird.
"So, whos this Logan dude? And why does he miss you?" Heath asked, referring to the text that alice recieved that one sunday morning.
Alice sighed before answering.
"Thats my brother. Hes in maine right now, he just got back from a backpacking trip around Europe." She feels bad that he found out in a way like that. She understands what the text may have looked like.
"Wow, thats cool." Heath said, releaved that she didnt have a boyfriend, or worse. A clingy ex boyfriend.
"Yeah, hes a photographer. It was an all expenses paid trip from some weird magazine and they are centered in maine." Alice explained. She missed her brother a lot but thought it was good he was doing things with his life instead of smoking pot and gambeling condoms away like he did when he was a teenager.
He is older but she was the one that he looked up to. He would tell her everything and ask her for advise. He even asked her permission and approvel of girls he would go out with. Alice, frankly, didnt give a fuck. He always texted her about his adventures. He still seemed like a exited little kid, even being two years older than Alice.
Heath smiled at how she talked about him. She was very proud of him now.
He looked back at the road and then at her green crocs and sweatpants pucked into socks.
"You really werent kidding when you said you werent changing." He laughed.
Alice flipped down the shade part of her flip up glasses. And rested her feet up on the dash board.
"I got no one to impress. You should love me for me and not what i wear."
"Thats so true." Heath agreed as he pulled to stop in the drive way. Heath shut off the car and got out, slamming his door and going to Alices door and opened it out and offering a hand.
"My lady," heath said and bowed his head. She smiled and nodded at him, taking his hand and stepping out, her very messy bun flopping as she did so.
"Why, thank you, kind sir."
They walked into the main house and greeted scotty, who was making eggs for kristin and himself. They smiled and said hello then continued making food.
"So, whats the plan?" Alice asked. Heath shrugged. I just wanted to make sure you where ok. Wanna watch tv or something?" He asked. Alice nodded. They got food than went into the pool house and settled on just showing eachother music.
"Listen to this song!" Alice yelled while munching on some food. Heath laughed and turned it up.
"Who is this?" He asked while enjoying the song.
"Brother ali, mourning in america. Its off of the album morning in america, dreaming in color. I get fucking lit to this, along with self taught and us."
Heath nodded and picked up the computer and typed in another song. Never gonna give you up by the black keys started playing.
"I love this album. When i was a kid i used to have a cd player and i would put on this album to fall asleep."
"Did you always have trouble sleeping?" Heath asked, accedentally going onto a seriose question. He was trying to keep things lighthearted today in hopes it would cheer alice up from the crappy mood she was in earlier.
Alice nodded and bit into the baby carrot smothered in garlic hummus.
"It was so bad. Nothing worked. My dad was an insomniac too. And when i did sleep i would have nightmares. They where so fucked up, like the shit someone with a bad trip and extreme mental issues would think up." She paused, laughing dryly, "when i was a kid my mom said that middle children have all the weird quirks or problems. She was right, i got the stress issues and crippling anxiety from her and the insomnia from my dad, not to mention addiction runs in my family."
Heath looked sadly at her.
"Im sorry." Was all he could think to say.
"Genetics, what are you gonna do?" Alice smiled and shook off the depressing vibe.
"Yeah." Heath said, looking down.
"Well, you want a burger?" Alice asked getting up and lighting a cigarette. He nodded and got his keys.
"Wait, i have an idea to piss off elton." Heath said, picking up the tfil camara ( crying) alice laughed and nodded and got in the passanger side.
She turned on the camara and filmed heath driving. She filmed their whole meal and the conversations they had. They talked about conspiracy theories, like fema camps, chem trails, and the men in black. They talked about interesting tv shows and movies.
"My favorite movie is before i disappear." Alice said.
"What is it about?" Heath asked. Alice explained, with very much detail, to heath and he smiled about how immersed and exited she was about talking about it. Heath couldnt help but feel a strong attraction towards this girl. He liked how she could look so good with her messy purple hair up in a bun, a pair of sunglasses carelessly resting on her forehead because she didnt need them in the shady area under the umbrella over their table. He liked the way part of a tattoo could be seen under her arm in the tanktop she had on under her sweater she was wearing earlier. He liked the way she talked, he liked the way she was down to earth and easy to talk to.
I might be falling for this girl, heath thought.
