Pitchblack and ice cold, the hallway was endless.

Olivia's firm grip never leaving Daisy's hand.

They continued running as if they knew where they were going but in reality the two had no idea.

The lights had been shut off and the only audible sound was their quick, heavy breathing and loud, violent footsteps pouncing against the glossed floors.

"Why is it so dark?" Olivia questioned to no one.

Daisy stayed silent and continued running..running right into a hard wall. Her hand losing Olivia's and getting swallowed into the darkness.

Panic etched through Daisy's skin, chilling her to the bone. Olivia's presence was no longer there, nor was her running and her breathing.

The room seemed to have gotten twice as cold and dark as it had been before.

"Olivia?" Daisy whispered, keeping her voice as steady as she could manage.

A deep chuckle echoed through the air causing a shiver to run down Daisy's spine.

The lights flickered on; faint and flickering unstedily.

Daisy was no longer in the Institute but instead a room so familiar she could draw it in her sleep.

Diasy gawked around, the lump in her throat making it hard to breathe as her heart raced against her chest.

The walls were torn of old wall paper, the floors covered in dirt and shattered whiskey bottles, the tv displaying a frenzy of gray splatches looking full of static and craze.

Daisy recognized everything down to the last speck of dust on the eerie window pane.

Voices raised dangerously high in the other room. Daisy's mother kept quiet, knowing if she talked back things would only be much worse.

Dick Parks, Daisy's father, was a very violent man. Drinking didn't make the violence any better.

"If you look at me like that one more time I'll fucking murder you!" Dick belted, the color in his face turning pepper red.

Daisy, 6 years old at the time, hid inside the laundry basket in a closet, right beside the bathroom, hearing the entire thing, crying and trying not to be loud, in fear Dick would hit her again.

The fiasco started dying down, silence pouring into the apartment until an ear piercing boom exploded throughout the silence.

Daisy let out a blood-curddling scream, knowing wwell enough what she heard was a gun shot.

"Mommy!" She whimpered, tears falling down her face as she crashed through the doors, racing to the kitchen as fast as a 6 year olds legs would take them.

16 year old Daisy watched herself in absolute horror, knowing exactly what would come next, would would ruin her entire life, what had made her grow up way too fast.

Sweat was matted to Daisy's forehead, her heart beating unevenly against her chest as she lunged forward, accidentally swatting Olivia in the face.

"Ow, what the hell!" She groaned, rolling over, burying her face in her pillow.

Olivia and Daisy's beds were pushed together, making it a queen bed, both of them side by side.
