The streets were dim and quiet, as the late night transitioned to very early morning. Everyone was either at home or asleep at this hour, and it was surprising that anyone would be out in the streets. However, Frost and Flame were walking side by side down the sidewalk, quietly passing the darkened shops and businesses as they went. Not even the slightest wind dared to disturb the peace of the sleeping town. Frost dragged her crystal blue gaze across the horizon, studying everything that her eyes allowed her to see. She could just barely see the forest that surrounded the entire town, the cherry blossoms and newly sprouting leaves hazy in the moonlight. It's weird to think that an entire town can sleep peacefully when a murder took place not even that far away. Eh, I guess things are just better left unsaid. The two siblings were making their way back home, still at unease due to what had happened only hours before. The house wasn't too far away now, all they had to do was turn into the alleyway and get to their front door. Frost sensed a feeling of relief at the familiar sight of the alley. For an alley, it was actually quite wide and well lit. Why not just call it a street or something? Frost quickened her pace as she got closer to the doorway, a smile spreading across her face. "Home sweet home!" She exclaimed, making a dash towards the house. As she reached the door and reached out to turn the knob, she felt Flame rest his hand on her left shoulder.
"I think it's locked. Hold on, lemme just grab the keys...If I could just remember which pocket I stashed 'em in," Flame mumbled, digging through the pockets of his pants. He lightened up once he heard the jingling of the keys, pulling them out of their "hiding place". "I'm pretty sure this is the right one..."
Suddenly, the alley went dim. Frost felt chills go throughout her body as she slowly turned her head, and then her body, to face the other end of the street. The lighting had gone from bright to dim in an instant, with the place now just barely illuminated. Soon after, footsteps could be heard echoing down, getting closer and closer with each one. Frost unintentionally let out a gasp, overtaken by fear and paranoia. What if I'm just imagining it? Am I hearing things? I mean, Marissa and Tyler's murder still has me really scared. Yeah, that's what it is! I'm just imagining it. It's all fine. She tried to convince herself that it was nothing. But that prickling sensation of pure fear and anxiety forced its way back in as Frost looked over and saw that Flame wore an expression that showed the same feeling.
"Is it just me, or are those footsteps coming closer to us?" Flame asked, his voice shaking. Flame took a step back as he saw a figure appear under one of the streetlights. It was a man, obviously quite youthful, with jet black hair and a large blue highlight. He wore a pair of headphones that matched his hair extraordinarily well, with cat ears that glowed electric blue. That wasn't the weirdest thing he wore, however. The weirdest thing he wore was a confident grin, stretching from ear to ear, lips poised with anticipation.
"Flame, hurry up and unlock the door. I have a bad feeling about this."
Silence. The man had stopped and was just staring at them now.
"U-Uh, F-Flame, anytime soon would be nice!"
"I'm trying!"
"My dear, is everything okay? You're gonna let them get away at this rate," The man called out.
"Yes, sorry I'm late! There was just a small delay on the way," Frost remembered the voice of the person who replied, it sounded so familiar. Then the person came into light, revealing herself. Dark blue pigtails, loosely resting on her shoulders. A navy blue schoolgirl outfit, like something out of the animes. Deep violet eyes that held an expression of perplexity. A tiny little smile, one that could belong to both an innocent child and a serial killer. She held a katana in her right hand, twirling it around as she continued walking forward with grace. Frost's vision began to blur as panic crawled its way throughout her body. It's that girl that showed up Haze's house! The only thing she could hear was the desperate jingle-jangle of the keys and Haruka's footsteps, which were gradually quickening.
"Ohhh no, this is bad. Shit, this is bad."
"What is it, Flame?"
"The door's jammed, it won't unlock! Damnit, we're trapped here!""Catherine, it's getting pretty late. Shouldn't you at least try to get some sleep? Hazel wants us to meet up with her quite early, and we both know how cranky you get when you're sleep deprived."
"Trust me, Sebastian, I know when I can and can't sleep. If I don't get any sleep tonight, oh well, it won't kill me."
"No, but being tired from no sleep just might. With a murder, or ever murderers on the loose, there's no telling what could happen next."
"Oh, whatever. Can you at least try to rest? Like, lay down and relax for a while? You'll drive yourself crazy if you don't give your mind a break."
"I think I already drove myself crazy a long time ago," Cat laughed a little, sitting up on the couch she was on. She had returned to her home on the beach not too long ago, and had spent the past 20 minutes or so thinking to herself. It was pushing 2 in the morning, and yet she still didn't feel tired, even in the slightest manner. She let out a sigh and hopped to her feet, ignoring Sebastian's concerned gaze as she ran up the stairs. She made her way down the hallway, paying no attention to the softly painted walls and the pictures that hung on them. She passed her bedroom door and hesitated for a moment, wondering whether or not she really should make an attempt in getting some rest before the morning. But she continued on, towards the sliding glass door that led out to the balcony. She slid the door open and slowly walked out, the sound of her feet hitting the wood of the balcony somewhat soothing her. The entirety of the scene was soothing, with a perfect view of the ocean shore and the forest that bordered it. Cat could see the silvery moon and stars mirrored in the water's deep blue waves and she could spot a few clouds drifting through the perfect night sky. A faint, cool breeze tugged at the bottom of Cat's dress, which she now realized she had forgotten to change out of. She looked down at herself, all wrapped up in the elegant red dress. I'm surprised that I even decided to wear this thing. The party wasn't even a formal occasion, I could have just shown up in something far more casual. Perhaps...Was I dressed to impress? A smile spread across her face. Oh, don't tell me I dressed like this believing it would impress Michael somehow. I wouldn't even have to do all that much to impress him anyway. Cat leaned forward on the wooden railing in front of her, the smile on her face growing wider. He'd still think that I'm adorable, wouldn't he? She drew in a quick breath, taking in the scents of spring. "Maybe I should listen to Sebastian for once and actually try to sleep. After all, it's gonna be a long day. And besides, the sooner it is to morning," Cat whispered to herself, trying to make out Michael's house in the distance," the sooner it is to me seeing you again."Cat,don't get all emotional and sappy like me,that won't end well at all. No one wants to be around an over emotional bish like me.
Anyway, are you guys happy that I actually managed to write another chapter in less than a week? This only took me about 3 days, I just decided to wait until Friday to release. I leave you with a cliffhanger with Flame and Frost!
Oh,also, the next chapter is when things start heating up. Huehue
