Chapter 8

"Hurry up, Flame! I can see the cabin from here!"
"Well of course you can, you're way ahead of me! Wait for me, you jerk!" Flame called out, kidding around. His face brightened as a small grin stretched across his face. His cheeks were rosy due to the bitter cold and the frigid wind that disrupted the sleeping winter forest. As Flame hurried forward to catch up with his sister, he tilted his head back to gaze at the breathtaking night sky. He was, with all honesty, already used to the sky back on Earth, and it bothered him to see the stars in an entirely different alignment. No big dipper, no familiar constellations. It's so strange to consider the fact that we were just on Earth a moment ago. But now we're here, in a far away galaxy, so far from home. Flame chuckled as he made his way into the patch of pine trees that Frost had disappeared in only a minute ago. It's ironic that I would even have that type of thought. I am home. At least, I'm at my place of origin. Why do I feel so homesick, then? I should feel a sense of comfort or rejoice, perhaps. But no. I miss Earth and everyone there. Sebastian, Cat, Michael, Hazel, Oliver, all of them. Who would've known I'd get so attached to something foreign.  As Flame walked further and further into the pines, the sound of the waterfall grew gradually louder, until it reached a point where it blocked out almost all other sounds. The pines opened up to a hidden paradise. Snow covered the entire landscape; there wasn't a single trace of plant growth anywhere. The waterfall crashed down into a stream that led onward into the forest, and the blue moon was reflected in the darkness of the flowing water. The crunching of the snow underneath Flame's feet could faintly be heard as he approached the cabin, purposely slowing down to take in the scenery. The door was already wide open, which led Flame to assume that Frost was already inside. I hope there's a fireplace inside. It's fucking cold out here.

Inside the cabin, it was much warmer than it was outside. Frost had started a fire in the fireplace, with Flame's help. He was more than grateful to help, he wanted to do anything to get warmed up. He was sitting in a chair beside the fireplace, watching the flames waver and fluctuate. There was something about fire that truly fascinated Flame, ironically enough. Maybe it was the color or the way it grew when supplied the sufficient elements to thrive.

"This brings back memories of when we were younger and our parents would bring us here to stay for a while. You and I would sit together, just like this, getting lost in the mesmerizing glow of the kindling fire. It's peaceful. I like it this way," Frost uttered, her voice soft and sweet. Flame tore his amber gaze away from the fire and rested it upon Frost. He studied her expression, as well as the look of purity and tranquility that appeared in her blue eyes. With the crackling blaze that had her so abstracted, her eyes looked more orange than blue.
"To be honest, Frost, I'm not normally ever genuinely angry with you. I hope you know that. I just...envy you. I envy your personality. I wish I shared your empathetic and friendly nature. But that's unfortunately not who I am," Flame revealed, letting his eyes wander around the room.
"You think mom and dad know that we're here? It's been 7 years, I bet they miss us a whole lot. If they don't, we should head over to the palace in the morning. Which is going to be a little long, due to the longer days and nights here."
"Oh. I forgot about that."
"They've probably missed us. Well, if we want to be in the right state of mind to meet them, we better get some sleep. I have to say that I'm getting pretty sleepy," Frost confessed as a yawn escaped from her mouth. She stood up from the chair she was sitting in and gave her brother a smile. "You still remember where the bedrooms are?"
"Yeah, I remember. Thanks, Frost."
"No problem. I'll see you in the morning. 'Night, Flame."
"Good night, Frost. Sleep well," He replied, watching Frost walk down the hall and into her bedroom. He wasn't feeling tired at all, he was frankly too lonesome to even attempt to fall asleep. I just want to go back home. To the home that I belong in

Paris in the morning is just as beautiful as it is during the night time, in its own way. The busy streets and the various conversations all have a unique charm to them. The Eiffel Tower rising up over the bustling French city, holding so many life stories. How many people have come to visit here, do you think? Thousands, maybe even millions, I'd say. It's the place I grew up, I would know. Even as a child, I knew that Paris was truly a magnificent and remarkable city, compared to every other area I had been to. Not even London with its Big Ben and its castles and towers were enough to move me. Not like Paris did. However, even with such grace and beauty, a great place like this can have its downsides. During the summer, the heat can be a bit much. The rain during the cold season isn't very admirable either.
Paris also has many secrets...that are better left untold. Some can cause a lifetime of pain and suffering, bringing you to the point in which you wish you could just end it all!
"Hey, Glitch, are you alright? You've just been staring at the tower for the longest time without saying a single word. I was trying to get your attention, you know."
"O-Oh, my apologies. I guess I got a tad distracted. I didn't mean to ignore you. Honest."
"It's all right, I know you didn't mean to. I just don't want you to overthink things, that's all. I know how you can get whenever you do that. It's scary."
"Um, yeah," Glitch looked down at the ground, guilt prickling through him. He felt Haruka rest her hand on his shoulder, rubbing it gently to comfort him.
"You know what's coming soon, right Glitch?"
"Mhm, I know. It's almost time to lure them in for the kill," Glitch piped, showing his excitement. His eyes glimmered with a lust for bloodshed, and his smile confessed his craze. Even at this angle, he could tell that Haruka shared the adrenaline that he was feeling. It's almost time to end it...It's almost time to end them all.
