Previously in The Secrets, The Lies: Eddie and Alaya are now in high school where Eddie meets a girl his age named Nia, is it just a coincidence?

Demi

I pulled the black jeans over my legs before fastening them at my waist. "Hopefully they haven't set the house on fire"

"You're acting like we've never left them home alone before" Wilmer smirked,

"I'm just worried"

"About what?"

"Nick" I said, "I mean, he's been out for a year now, what if he's trying to find us? What if he does find us?"

"Or maybe he's trying to turn his life around..." Wilmer said hesitantly,

I narrowed my eyes, "Seriously? After everything he put us through?"

"I just want you to stop living in fear-"

I cut him off, "I'm never going to stop living in fear!" I snapped, "I will always be in fear of Nick, or even Kehlani! I will always be in fear of the possibility of you becoming like Nick. I know you won't, but I still wonder..." I trailed off.

Wilmer stayed quiet for a moment, "Maybe you should talk to someone again about all of this"

"What?"

"Maybe you should go see your old therapist again, she's helped you a lot in the past" Wilmer suggested,

"I think I can handle myself just fine" I stated defensively, "I know how to take care of myself"

Wilmer rolled his eyes, "Yes, we all know that"

"What's that meant to mean?" I narrowed my eyes,

"You told me you wanted to divorce me last time so that you could 'learn to take care of yourself'"

"But I didn't, did I?"

Wilmer shook his head, "Instead you flew to Texas for two weeks to be with your family. That wasn't exactly being by yourself, but whatever floats your boat"

"Maybe I'll do that again" I said casually.

"I know a vacation to get away from everything is nice in theory, but you've got two kids. When you got back last time we found out that our son had started smoking pot while you were gone, and our daughter had dyed her hair purple!"

I thought about it for a moment, "I know, I just feel like I rely on you too much"

"I'm here for you to rely on, I'm your husband"

I looked to the floor, "What if one day, God forbid, something happens to you?"

"Nothing will happen to me"

"You don't know that. Have you seen Grey's Anatomy? Derek had three children with Meredith then decided that he was going to get hit by a truck"

"I don't think he decided to get hit by a truck, and that's just a TV show, Demi" Wilmer chuckled,

"It's not a TV show, it's a way of life" I said stubbornly while opening the bedroom door, "Now, I need to make sure that Eddie isn't currently losing his virginity" I said, closing the door behind me before walking down the hall.

I opened Eddie's door to see he wasn't even in there, "Downstairs, in the study" Alaya said from behind me, leaning against the doorframe of her bedroom.
