Moving through the orchard, you admire the trees and all the apples hanging from the branches. Spotting your boss, Sasha, you walk over, calling out a greeting. He turns around, waving at you, moving down the ladder. "Clean up go okay?" he inquires.
"Yes. I'm debating asking your mom to teach me some of her recipes. She's an amazing cook."
"I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind sharing them with you. It's not like they're a family secret."
"Okay. Good," you smile shyly at him.
"Here let me show you what you need to know about apple picking." Holding up the bag, he explains, "You put the bag on over your shoulders facing front. The bag can hold up to 40 pounds so make sure that you put the bag on properly. Now you see the straps on the side of the bag? When the bag is full, head over the cart over there. Put the bag over the cart, then grab the straps and unhook them. The apples will fall out from the bottom of the bag."
"Wow. That's actually kind of cool."
He grins at you. "Before you start picking, let me show you how to pick an apple."
"There's a certain way to pick an apple?" you say incredulously.
Smirking, he answers, "Yes. There is. Otherwise you will bruise the apple."
He demonstrates how to pick an apple by grabbing the stem of the apple and twisting it around and around until it comes off the branch, and then placing it in your bag.
"Alright. Anything else I need to know, before I start?"
"No, you've been shown the basics of apple picking. Now get to it," his shoulder shoving gently against yours.
"Any particular trees I shouldn't pick from?"
"No. They're all ready to be picked from."
"Okay. Good to know. Thanks."
You grab a ladder and head over to the nearest tree.
Several hours later, you drop down from the ladder and take your last batch of picked apples over to the cart and empty your bag into the cart. Stretching your back muscles, you breathe a sigh of relief.
"Dinner is going to be served soon," your boss informs you, "we should head in to wash up."
Facing him, you say, "That's good. I'm starving. This was actually really nice."
"Good. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. Let's go drop these bags off in the shed and then head on in."
