I woke up to hear sniffling and quite sobs next to my bed side. My eyes opened and I looked to my left to see Ellie hugging her knees and crying.

"Ellie?" I groaned and reached over to put my hand on her shoulder. She looked up at me with her tear stained face, her dark blue eyes were glossy and her dark brown hair was knotted. She looked a lot like me me when I was younger, except for the little freckles that dotted her nose. But she looked too old for a 12 year old. I think it was her eyes. A girls eyes are suppose to look young and happy and playful... But hers looked older and more empty. I must look the same.

Her eyes grew wide when she saw me and she leapt onto my bed to embrace me. Pain shot through my body when she jumped at me and I whimpered. "Gentle, Ellie, gentle!" I groaned. She immediately jumped off me but still hugged me but lighter.

"I'm so glad your okay." She whispered on my shoulder.

"Well I wouldn't say I'm okay but..." I chuckled lightly to try and brighten the mood, but it just turned into coughing. Ellie looked up at me with worried eyes and I stroked her hair. "I'm still breathing Ellie. And I'm not going to leave you." I murmured while twirling her hair around my finger.

Suddenly I realized something, "Ellie, how did I get here?" I said, suddenly slightly panicked.

"A girl and a boy came over and dropped you off. You were unconscious." She started as fresh tears began to fill her eyes.

Panic swept over me and I said in a shaky voice, "Was... Was dad home?"

"No, he was at work, I answered the door." I immediately sighed and closed my eyes.

Thank goodness, I thought I was dead for sure.

I opened my eyes and frowned trying to think of the previous events, "Did you say there was a girl AND a boy?" I asked. She nodded. "Who was he?"

She shrugged and said, "I don't know, but he looked a lot like the girl. I think he was her brother." She bit her lip before asking, "Cat... You were out for two days... Did you get beat up at school again?" She whispered as a tear trickled down her cheek.

I looked down and nodded slightly. More tears ran down her cheeks and she shouted, "Why can't we tell anyone Cat! I don't want to live like this anymore! I can't take seeing you like this any longer! Please! Please tell someone!" She cried out as she hugged me tighter.

"Ellie... I'm sorry... I can't do that... Please Ellie you don't understa-"

"No! I do understand! I don't care! I just don't want you hurt anymore!" She shouted as she pulled away.

I reached out and grabbed her wrist, pulling her around to face me. "Ellie! If we say something then people will come and take us away, but we will also be taken away from eachother!" I shouted as my own tears threatened to surface. "We have already had so many people leave us! I am not going to leave you too!" She struggled under my firm grip and refused to listen. "Ellie please! One more year and I'll be 18, then we can leave! Please, Ellie, PLEASE!"

She tore out of my grip and backed away, tears running one after the other, "I don't even know if you'll make it that long anymore." And then she ran away and slammed her bedroom door closed.

I sat there staring at the doorway and a tear managed to escape.

I didn't know if I'll make it that long either.

About two days later I was ready to go back to school. The bruises had faded and it didn't hurt to move as much anymore, so I figured it would be okay to go back. My dad didn't care If I stayed home, but he didn't look after me either. He never does anyway. Ellie would bring me some food every once in a while but she was still mad at me and just gave me the food or water and left.
