"Kris to your left!" I yell onto my microphone. Her avatar quickly spun around and shot the running zombie.
"Nice call Rach!" she called back. I smiled. This gave was basically my life. It was so awesome. As I click the X button to attack, the screen suddenly turned black.
"Wha-" I started to say. Words then pop up on screen.
'Congratulations! You have beat the game 'Apocalypse'! Please hold still!'
"Hey Rach! I think we just finished the game!" Kris cried happily.
"That doesn't make sense... We were in the middle of a fight." I said. No response. All I hear it's static. I look back at my screen. There's a new screen now, it's displaying two new avatars. They look exactly like me and Kris, but in the gear we had on our avatars. I squint at the screen. I see faint name tags. When I read them, my my mouth opened. They said Kris and Rach. I opened my mouth again to speak to my friend, but before I got the chance, my room pixelated. Startled, I stood up, knocking chair down on the process..I ran to the door and pulled the handle. It didn't budge. I look over at my computer. It isn't there. Strands of code now replaced it. Floating words appear, it looked like a loading screen. I read the bar under it.
'Erasing Existence 98%'I grabbed my head and screamed, telling myself that it was a dream and I would wake up any second. Colors flash in front of my eyes, before everything goes dark.
I bolt up. The bright sun blinds me. The ground seemed to be sandstone. The hot noon sun beat down on my face. When my eyes adjust, I see Kris sitting parallel to me.
"Kris!" I yell and jump up to hug her. She hugs me back. I look around, she does as well. Her eyes go wide.
"I know this layout.. This is Apocalypse." she said. I look down at my clothes. I'm wearing my camo jacket and dark green shirt, as well as my khaki booty shorts and black combat boots. I look at my arms. I have on my black gloves. I also realize I have my sniper rifle strapped on my back. I have quite a few rounds of ammo, a small knife, a revolver and from what I can remember my character had a week's worth of food and water in my pack. I feel atop my head and find my camo headband and night vision/aiming goggles. I look up at Kris. She's wearing a black sports bra with a camo jacket on over it. She also has on black shorts as well as her belt holding her desert eagle, revolver, and several rounds of ammo. She has goggles on like mine and I think she had since sunglasses in her bag. I believe she has much food and water as me. I pause suddenly. We're in a game. A game where the zombie apocalypse had taken place. My mind begins to race, thinking of how to survive. It's day, so the only ones out will be the runners. Other zombies hate the sun because it causes them to decay, though the runners are extremely fast. Fast enough to cool themselves off I guess.
"We need to find shelter before nightfall, or else it'll be bad news." Kris says. I nod and we both start of on the direction of what we assume to be north.
It wasn't long before we spotted a group of other people. They stood on a rather tall rock, the only thing visible in this desolate place, attempting to push back the runners that had gathered at the bottom. From what I could tell there were two guys and one girl. They were to busy fending off the zombies to notice is. I saw red numbers over their heads, most of them around twenty... Hmm, must be levels. They pretty low levels to in this area. The wind suddenly blew. My brown ringlets covered my face for a moment before the wind stopped. Not good.
"Kris, get your guns!" I yelled. She understood. The wind had blown out scent over to the runners. Their heads turned, as did the players. I grabbed my gun off my back and loaded it. Putting on my goggles, I lay down on my stomach, pushing myself up with my elbows. I peered into the scope. The runners were already half way to us. I cannot believe I'm doing this. I have never actually shot a gun before. Time slowed and I see the bullet line. I carefully aim it at the zombies head. Then. I took the shot. Time speeds up again and I see the bullet go through his right eye. Exactly where I aimed. Kris was already there, shooting others down. I look ok back into the scope and keep shooting as her backup.
Once all the runners are dead, I grab my gun and strap it to my back behind my knapsack. The people are running toward Kris, relieved looks on their faces. I pull out my revolver and run to her side. She had finished looting the zombies by then and was standing. I point my gun at the approaching people. They stop in the tracks, faces now full of fear.
"Their safe." Kris said after a moment. "No bites." I lower my gun and cautiously walk forward.
"What are you guys going here." I said. "This is a level forty and above area. How did you get her?"
"Are you here?" One guy with short black hair and blue eyes asked. "I mean like, in the game?" I stared.
"Answer her." Kris started. She pulled out her desert eagle and aimed. "Or I'll shoot." The boys eyes went wide. He said nothing, but his blond friend did. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail and she was rather short.
"I-I.. Uh. We had A higher lever friends and teleported to her. But when when did.. We were in the game... A-and she was dead" she said, tearing up. I glare. Idiots they probably stuck closer to the body. The scent of the corpse probably attracted the runners.
"Great." I said sarcastically. "And yes, we are in the game too." I said, in a rather annoyed tone. The one boy who hadn't talked looked up at our levels and his green eyes widened.
"You guys are in the level three hundred zone?! You must be some of the the top players!" he yelled. His friends mouths dropped open and they too looked up at our levels. At least they found out how to tell levels. Kris and I simultaneously sighed.
'Yes, we are." she said, sounding bored. I looked over at the horizon and saw something I hoped I wouldn't see.
"Kris." I said. She looked over. The sun was setting. The other zombies would be roaming soon, we had no shelter. There was no sign of a safe area for miles. We were stranded, in a apocalyptic world which was almost night, with no clue of we got here.
