                Year of 2260

It was a normal day for the most part. Well, as normal as it could be considering our current living situation. The warm sun was hidden behind clouds, yet we did not see any reason to worry. Smiling, we completely ignored the ominous clouds cloaking the sky.
As I was saying, it was a normal morning, and my brother and I smiled, looking up at the person we called 'Mother'. She found us when we weren't even a year old., "Newly born li'l babies you were! I found you right on the street!" She always said with a kind voice.
We quickly ate the small portion of baked potato she had given us. This was a treat, most of the time we just got stale, moldy bread, or something worse. My brother had  said it was because we finished school. Another thing that Mother was proud of us for. She said that we're children that others would call prodigies, and that it was a shame couldn't be in school. We had finished all of the classes preschool through college. According to her, it was an accomplishment.
"Andy, Andrew," Mother started. We looked up from the food in our hands and quickly swallowed.
"Yes Mother?" Where both asked, grinning happily.
She smiled warmly before kneeling down to hug us.  As she opened her mouth to speak, another voice suddenly cut in.
"You there!"  The voice yelled. His voice was deep, obviously a male, and seemed to be slightly muffled. "What're you doing!? This is a restricted area!" Mother's eyes went wide. She grabbed us both and began to. "Hey! stop right there!" My brother and I both looked back. A man clad in black was running towards us, he seemed about thirty years of age, based on his eyes, which were just visible through his mask. He was followed by several others in their mid to late twenties.
"Mother," we both said. "That man is annoying... He yells to much." She said nothing and kept running. Andrew and I looked at each other in confusion, and kept running along side her. We had no clue why we were running, that place had been our home forever, why were we leaving?
It felt like we ran for hours, the footsteps got quieter, then gradually the sounds of echoing footsteps behind us went away completely. It felt as if we would never stop running, it felt like forever, but it was probably just a matter of minutes in which this all happened. We were slowing down, out of breath, lungs burning. We didn't know if they were still behind us, but we didn't dare to look back. She let go of our hands and then stopped. Mother began taking deep breaths, trying to return her breathing normal. We did the same, heavily breathing, we attempted to listen for footsteps, but heard nothing. When our breathing became normal, we opened or mouths to ask mother why we had run, but we never got the chance... A gunshot rung throughout the alleyways... Just one... Our ears began to ring, then mother fell to the ground. A pool of blood quickly forming around her head. A hole had planted itself right between her emerald green eyes, a bullet now buried deep within her head. Brother and I were to shocked to speak. I grabbed his hand and hugged him. Our eyes fills with tears, but none fell. We refused to let the men who had come up behind us witness us cry. I let go of Andrew, and we slowly turned around, still holding hands. The men had frozen, but then one whispered to the others.
"What do we do? There are children." We still stood motionless.
"I don't know.. I've never seen a homeless kid before.." Another said. Suddenly the same one that just spoke stepped towards us. We both took a couple steps back, eyes wide, the we turned and ran. "Wait!" The man called. We turned a corner and went down one of the branching alleyways and ducked behind a large trashcan. Footsteps soon followed, the men ran by, completely oblivious as to where we were hidden. I looked at Andrew and he looked back at me. Hot tears rolled down my cheeks as I began to cry. Alex hugged me, his own tears dripping down onto my head. I grabbed his shirt and we both began to sob harder, yet we made no noise. Our many tears were lost in the rain that soon started. We had no clue what we were to do now.. We had lost everything that day... We only had each other.

My gaze fell upon my twin brother, Andrew, his head rested on my shoulder as he snored slightly. The moon was still high in the sky and the smell rotting meat and old garbage that hung in the air stung my sensitive nose. The chilly air bit my fingers, turning them a light blue. I gave a slight smile, Seeing my brother so calm was nice. Normally we're out gambling, or stealing. He gets pretty serious then, just like me. When we're out of hiding, we're known as 'The Killer Twins' or 'The Dead Man Brothers'. Considering that we're eleven, I guess we can be scary. It's not that bad though, people don't bother you as much... Though there is that occasional cocky guy who insists on fighting you.
Strange things are said about us, like the many rumors that are spread. For example, 'If you see them, you won't live to tell about it.' Though we're fine with them. After all, we do anything for money or food... Even kill.. Call us what you wish, gangsters, killers, assassins, it doesn't matter. Because we're all of them.
We're both considered orphans I guess. We never really had a family. We learned that we had to do whatever we had to in order to survive. That's how it works here, in this land of outcasts. But yet again, most of them at least have houses to go home to. Life's hard out here, I'm surprised we've managed to survive this long on our own... Well... I guess that's not completely true, there was one woman who helped us... We would've died without her, but don't talk about her, not since that day in July...
I slowly close my ice blue eyes, and then begin to think. 'Why were we even born' I asked myself. 'Don't think about that, many people are only born with the purpose of dieing... Just like her... Just like us' I remind myself somberly.
I shiver in the cold January night air. A large chill goes down my spine and I suddenly feel very uncomfortable.. It's as if somebody else is here. My eyes snap open, scanning the area. I see no movement whatsoever. 'Is someone watching us?' I thought.'That should be impossible... We're in a thin alleyway... I would've seen them now.' The hair on the back of my neck stands up. I look around frantically, searching for something or someone. My body is stuck in full panic mode. As quickly as the feeling came, it's gone... I have no clue what it was. Andrew still sleeps soundly, resting on my shoulder. I put my hand atop his head and kiss his forehead lightly. I close my eyes and whisper to him.
"I love you... I'll never leave you.."
It takes about thirty minutes me to fully calm down. I start thinking, and eventually my mind wanders to how we'll manage to get by tomorrow. Sure we don't eat a lot, but we still need water. We both have strangely good body composition, considering lack of sleep and nutrients. I sigh as my thoughts slowly begin to stop. My eyes close, and I drift off.
