mark's pov

I wake up to my alarm by the bedside table, getting up and doing my morning routine. When I step into the bathroom I accidentally cut my foot from a razor that was left on the carpeted floor, surprisingly not picked up by any of my ignorant but kind siblings - who are presumably getting here soon.

After quickly getting out of the house before my siblings came home, I walk down the same road to the new school that was given to me without a choice. I hated this school but still had nothing to really hate about it - it was just the lessons that got me frustrated.

In the groups of people outside of school, waiting to be let in, in the numbing weather, the only people that stood out were the kids with slightly dyed hair - blue, blond, auburn, and plenty other colors that would make themselves stand out. But the only person that stood out the most for me was Jack. I couldn't help myself, but to look at him at least once when we pass by, hoping he'd talk to me in the middle of our moments when our eyes meet - but this time, it hadn't happened.

I walk inside the school - louder than the kids outside - then walk back out, to the courtyard in the middle of the whole school building, with my water bottle that I grabbed from the vending machine in the hall. "Hey Mark!" I shuddered at the sound of my name being shouted behind me. I wasn't used to it - especially in a school where no one even knows I existed.
It was Tyler.

"Oh hey — what are you doing here?" I asked, raising my eyebrow, stopping by the plant furnishing that added way more ambience than the furnishing the teachers put up on the boards on the wall.
"I was going to ask the same thing, but I just came because I needed to get some fresh air since there's like a crowd of people inside," Tyler responds, looking more nervous than before I asked the question.

I can relate with him greatly on being nervous when you get asked questions, but it gives me a lot of unanswered questions in my head.

"That's new. Hope you can eventually get back inside because it cold out here." I chuckle to make it less awkward as it is already, or as it always has been.

Tyler gives a warm smile that made me feel a certain way. He was handsome - like a jock in that one movie about team spirit or something. I give back the smile then cup my mouth with my hands then blow on them, the numbing feeling for the cold seizing into the wind.

I pat Tyler on the back then head inside. For a not so expensive school like this, their court yard is as big as a mall.

Once stepping inside onto the marble floor covered in carpet for when we get inside, I feel a vibration that came out of my pocket.

Jack 6: 21am
Hey buddy!

My heart sinks and my eyes begin to awake from the unexpected text.

Mark 6:21am
Hey! anything wrong?

A few "Jack is typing..." then he finally sends a message.

Jack 6:22am
Yeah, uh you're not with me lol. Where are you?

For the second time, my heart sinks into me. Why would Jack want to meet me? I shake the thought out of my head then reply.

Mark 6:23am
Oh. i'm just by the door to the courtyard. why do you wanna meet?

Jack 6:23am
Wait just there.

I tilt my head up, away from my phone, then lean on a locker that faced the door to the courtyard.

...

jack's pov

I run down the stairwell - jumping on the last two steps - to the first floor hallway, then I took a sharp turn. The sound of my squeaking shoes marking the ground of a charcoal tint.

"Dumbass!" Crystal yells while carefully trying to get down the stairwell.

I dodged one of her slaps and slapped her back but this of course didn't make her stop, but instead she wanted to hurt me even more.
